Then and Now: On Christmas Hiatus
While the weekly feature is taking a Christmas break, we'll give you the Patch equivalent of a clip show.
Apparently, you really can go home again. Following seven years with GateHouse Media (Waltham Daily News Tribune, 2005-2009; MetroWest Daily News, 2009-2010), I've returned to the town in which I grew up to serve as the editor for Holliston Patch.
I graduated from Holliston High in 1999 and spent two years at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, NH, before moving on to the University of Massachusetts Amherst, from which I graduated with a B.S in journalism in 2003.
Since college, I've bounced around the state, living in Watertown and Brighton, before settling in Ashland with my wife Kate in November 2009. But in September 2010, Patch presented me with an opportunity too good to pass up: a chance to serve as editor in the town in which I've spent the bulk of my 29 years.
While this town has changed a bit since I graduated from high school, the core of the town has not. My parents and my wife's parents still live here and I still know many of the people with whom I grew up and, more importantly, what's important to them.
As such, I take seriously the tasks of delivering the news and serving the community I've always been a part of. So, if you see me out and about, say "hello" or if drop me an e-mail if you have a story idea.
In my free time, I enjoy hiking, running and watching TV (Sons of Anarchy, Its Always Sunny in Phildelphia, Seinfeld) with my wife. I also love lifting weights and playing football, baseball and basketball.
Our Beliefs

At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable.

This disclosure is not a license for our editors to inject their beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that their beliefs are on the record will cause them to be ever mindful to write, report and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you ever see evidence that we failed in this mission, please let us know.

Politics

* How would you describe your political beliefs? I'm a registered Democrat, though I'm not entirely thrilled with either side of the aisle.

Religion

* How religious would you say you are? Not at all.

Local Hot Button Issues

* What do you think are the most important issues facing the community? Budget concerns facing the school.
