OPINION: Picnic with Diezy's Dogs

Make your summer picnic complete with hot dogs from Diezy's Dogs.

In a parking lot sits one lonely food cart. Its "open" flag ripples in the wind. Strangers mill about, absent-mindedly opening and closing wallets and jingling change. At this moment, the crowd of workers on lunch break is at the mercy of a teenage boy in a cart.

"Two Russians, one Sicilian and a dog bowl please," a customer orders. This is not the average hot dog line-up.

Of course Diezy Dogs does offer the hot dog staples -- chilidog, slaw dog, and good old-fashioned hot dog with mustard and ketchup. But take a break from the ordinary at Diezy. The Sicilian hot dog is topped with tomato sauce and parmesan cheese ($2.25), and the dog bowl consists of two hot dogs cut up in a bowl with any toppings of your choosing ($4.50).

Spice up the typical chilidog by ordering the red-hot chilidog, which includes chili, cheese, onions, jalapenos, horseradish and hot sauce ($2.75). The hot dogs range in price from $2 - $5.50. But the real deal is ordering the combos. For $1.50 more, in addition to the dog(s), you get a soda, chips and cookie.

Because Diezy's Dogs is just a cart in a parking lot (without picnic tables available), a day best for a Diezy outing would be a sunny, not overly hot day -- perfect for picking up some hot dogs to enjoy at a park.
