Waiter Caught Stealing from Former Employer Arrested with Heroin

A former waiter was allegedly caught with heroin on him after stealing money from Welly's.

A former waiter at Welly's Restaurant has been arrested on drug and theft charges.
On Saturday, July 27, Damon Shanley, 22, of 56 W. Plain Street in Wayland allegedly broke into a register at Welly’s Restaurant on Main Street and stole $210 in cash, according to a police report. When a store employee caught Shanley and tried to stop him, Shanley reportedly punched the employee in the head and face before a passerby in a car stopped and helped, according to court documents.
The chase through traffic caused a commotion and police were alerted. When police arrived, they arrested Shanley and as they were booking him found a small amount of heroin in his backpack in the form of rock residue as well as in a small cotton swab in addition to a pill police research indicated contained a small amount of opium, according to the police report of the incident.
Shanley was arraigned Monday on charges of breaking into a depository, assault and battery, larceny under $250, disturbing the peace, drug possession class B and drug possession class A. He was released on personal recognizance.
