Marlborough Man Assaults Pregnant Girlfriend

A Marlborough man allegedly shoved a table into the stomach of a woman who was four months pregnant.

Police have arrested a man they say shoved a table into the stomach of his pregnant girlfriend before choking her.

“There was a verbal argument during which the suspect slammed a glass table into her stomach and grabbed her around the neck and choked (her)," said Marlborough Police Det. Scott DeCiero of an assault on a woman who was four months pregnant that occured Monday morning.

When police arrived on the scene, they were told that the man — identified as Jonathan Veras, 30, of 436 Dawn Road in Maynard — had choked her a second time after she got away from him and into the bedroom, according to the police report. He also broke two candles on the wall and took away the girlfriend's phone, according to court documents.

Police arrested Veras at the scene and charged him with assault and battery on a pregnant woman, vandalizing property, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and impeding an investigation through witness intimidation.
