Murderers deserve to die. Or rather, they don't deserve to be kept alive by the State to the tune of tens of thousands of tax payer dollars a year. Ridiculous.

Protagoras, lowered how? Murderers deserve to die. Or rather, they don't deserve to be kept alive by the State to the tune of tens of thousands of tax payer dollars a year. Ridiculous.

p.s, when I say "rights" I'm including all of them...so Aron, that means the 2nd amendment as well....be careful on categorizing folks as right or left and what that actually means :-)

Rob, that's the point....you would CHOOSE to waive your rights (as you
should :-)...but the government shouldn't make that decision for you. -

NO! you never give up your rights as an American citizen, period. And don't condescend to members of this forum..regardless of differing opinions, all our hearts go out to the victims of this heinous crime...let's stop calling this a "tragedy" , it's a murderous crime intended to invoke terror.

Mike, I agree. Mike and Tony: But at what point do we draw the line on government interrogation and breach of our rights (all amendments) as American citizens?

Tony, no one is infringing on your rights except perhaps the government. Something to remember. Public Safety I get. But don't YOU be so quick to advocate that the government infringe upon on rights without considering future ramifications. This goes for not only the current subject amendments (5 &6) , but the rest of them too. That's my point.

ReplyDo I think these two were "enemy combatants" as defined after 9/11?. I doubt it. It appears Tamerlan "self-radicalized" (in the name of Islam? or maybe he’s just a “loser” like his uncles says he is), and it appears his younger brother chose to do the same. The main orchestrator of this heinous act clearly was Tamerlan, and he’s dead. Good riddance...he paid the ultimate price and deserved it.
Jahar (as he's being called in the news) was 9 when he came here, and like it or not, he chose to become an American citizen (unlike his brother) in 2011. At least based upon what we know now, it appears, he doesn’t belong in Guantanamo as an “enemy combatant.”
Aside from the enemy combatant issue, I understand the stated “public safety issue”. But failing to afford an American citizen (or any one of us on this forum) Miranda rights is a slippery slope indeed. They have enough to convict Jahar even if he doesn’t talk—I get that -- but I’m not a fan of side stepping 5th and 6th amendment rights afforded to us (or any other amendment rights for that matter).
Look, these two are both cold-blooded killers. Have you seen the news stories on how Jahar placed the bag, next to the 8 yr old, waited for the first explosion then calmly walked away? He’ll be charged with capital murder and deserves to be executed. Let’s just be careful about agreeing to the removal of rights from an American citizen that could affect the rest of us down the line.

Somerville is grossly off topic. I'd just ignore her.
