ReplyI don't understand how my 'payroll taxes' can go up when my tax rate remains the same because of my income. In other words, my tax rate is staying the same, and yet my take home pay is less.

ReplyBrigham Hill Rd - everywhere on the street, but particularly dangerous is the stretch of hilly, curvey road that begins near the new development and extends to North Brigham Hill Rd. It's pretty scary when vehicles, especially trucks and SUV's, come flying around those corners on the wrong side of the road.

ReplyReal tree for us. Always.
This year we found a wonderful family-owned tree farm right here in Grafton! Cutting down our own tree certainly added to our Christmas spirit. It didn't hurt that the trees and ground were covered with a beautiful coating of snow on Saturday! Don't hesitate to visit them - Highfields Tree Farm, 44 Fay Mountain Rd, Grafton.
And no, I have no relationship with the folks that own the farm ;-)

ReplyI think I sent this comment to the wrong section of The Patch ;-(
We have many talented craftspeople in town.....Perhaps the town could commission one of them to design a Grafton Christmas ornament that would be for sale around town. Maybe a new, dated one every year.
We spend a lot of time in Brewster in the summer, and each year I make sure to purchase the Christmas ornament about Brewster for that year.
As we drove around yesterday for the wonderful Grafton holiday event, I kept thinking about that idea, and how nice it would be.
Thanks!

ReplyFor partisans, debates are like date night with their true love – they only see the deep coral blue of his or her eyes, and don’t notice the lasagna stains on the shirt.
Those people already know who they’re voting for. (Jon Keller)
For those of us on the fence.....well, after last night's debate, I'm STILL on the fence.

Have you tried Rota Springs in Sterling??? My favorite, hands down. Take my word for it - it's worth the trip.

Rob,
The phrase "separation of church and state" itself does not appear in the United States Constitution. The First Amendment states that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." THAT is what is meant by the phrase 'separation of church and state.' It does not mean that there can be no talk of religion or God (or Mohammed, or Allah, or the Great Spirit, or anyone else). It also doesn't mean that God cannot be mentioned in schools, or that a town cannot display a nativity scene (or a Menorah). Separation of church and state means that the government may not establish a (state) religion, nor can they prohibit the practice of any religion. Speech about God (whichever one you believe in) is a right granted by the First Amendment - and that right even extends to our politicians. Politicians have the right to talk about God - any God - publicly or privately, just as you and I do. -

Nice story. Compassionate passersby trying to help; an unfortunate driver who cared enough to stop; and the amazing coincidence of those veterinary students who 'just happened' to be driving by at exactly the right time. And yes, we are fortunate to have such an amazing animal hospital right here in our town - two of my pets have been emergency patients there over the years and the folks at Tufts are just wonderful. So glad to read this story, and especially the happy ending.
