No cuts have been made to the school budget yet. The Finance Committee has no authority. It can only make recommendations.

Sorry I did not see your reply earlier. The follow up is helpful but not a solution. I'd say you have a duty to the public and the restaurant owner to present complete information in one story.

I know George (have not talked to him since this story broke) and I know a number of other restaurant owners. I'm told George runs a clean shop. What is his inspection history over ten years? I am also told the inspector in question may go to the extreme. What is her history compared to other inspectors?

I can’t say I know anything for certain, just offering what I have heard from people in the industry.

I can tell you I have been in the back of several restaurants (including Fish) and had views customers don’t get to see. Based on the eye test, Fish looks to be as clean or better than most.

It just seems to me that, if you are going to run a story that could be severely damaging to someone's business or reputation, you should exercise better care, the same type of care you would hope to receive if the scrutiny turns towards you some day.

Sam, Why no comments from Fish owner? Why no mention of health inspection violations in general to offer perspective on this particular event? My guess is that surprise inspections always lead to violations.

Also, Fish has been around for ten years. What is its overall record on prior health inspections?

Then there is the mention of the illness but with no details. What was the illness? Is there evidence Fish was the cause? What are the facts?

As Bill Belichick would say, "Sam, do your job," and I would add, "Don't just do what comes easy."

There were no insults in your post? … Yah, right, homophobic (you still have not explained what you mean), intolerant (did not explain that either) and prejudiced (a claim with no basis). You also accused me of “despising” you. It seems apparent that you used those labels merely because I disagree with you.

If we hold “radically different” views of Jesus Christ, then at least one of us must be wrong. That is a matter that should inspire discussion. I was prepared to offer a thoughtful exchange supported by the Word of God. It is astounding that your response was to take offense that I quoted Jesus.

May I remind you, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (1 Timothy 3:16-17)

I initially commented because your original post suggests to me the Jesus you preach is not the Jesus of the Bible. You don’t have the option of picking and choosing the attributes you like (love and mercy) while discarding the attributes you dislike (judgment and wrath) and redefining sin as if you are in a cafeteria ordering only that which suits your taste.

The bottom line is this – you claim to be a Church of Christ yet you oppose the teachings of the very men who built the Church of Christ and have not offered any sound reasoning as to why certain teachings should be ignored, only insults to me for pointing out the disparity.

“How easily you know and judge others and their hearts!”

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. You are the one who has used hateful rhetoric and disparaging labels while claiming me to be offensive merely because I quoted Scripture to point out your anti-Christian theology.

Think about it. Jesus quoted Scripture when confronting leaders who had lost their way. The Apostles followed his lead and routinely quoted Scripture as well. Yet you find offense in me for pointing to God’s Word, the very spoken words of Jesus, then attack me as if I am some terrible person for doing so. How can you then claim to be a minister of Christ, let alone a follower of Christ?

It is a primary function of the church to declare God’s Word in Scripture. If his Word makes you or me feel uncomfortable about our sin, the burden is on us to pursue holiness not the church to lessen God’s standard so that you or I or anyone else can feel good about ourselves while wallowing in our sin. Jesus did not come to make us feel good, or to affirm us as we are, he came to save us from our sin.

You have taken to a public forum, representing yourself as a minister of Christ while presenting a theology that contradicts the church that Jesus built. I expected more character from you than to merely cast insults because I had the audacity to present an opposing view, never mind that it is a soundly Biblical point of view.

"Pastor Kaz has done the hard work to create a place for you."

Quite to the contrary, it looks like Pastor Kaz has chosen the easy path by inviting people to come and live as they please. What is hard about that? Jesus and his Apostles called people to come, turn from sin, and strive to live holy lives. That is the hard path.

"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it." (Matthew 7:13) Those are Jesus' words not mine and it seems Jesus and Pastor Kaz are not on the same page.

“The Church - was the place where I very quickly discovered I was NOT welcome … Most of my friends have left the church while it was still homophobic and intolerant.”

How exactly did the church make you feel unwelcome? What exactly do you mean by homophobic and intolerant?

“… religious doctrine is dictating a morality and religious certainty that frequently has no room to change even when the overwhelming preponderance of evidence mandates that it does.”

What exactly do you mean? Can you cite actual examples?

“… the trinity is unchangeable, and so there is no room for an Jew or a Muslim or an atheist or a pagan to also be right.”

I say 2+2 = 4. You say 2+2 = 8. There is no room for us both to be right. That is the way truth works. What you believe about God is either true or false. It is actually nonsense to suggest all faiths should be mutually agreeable and accepting of each other when in reality they are mutually exclusive. As a result, only one can be right.

I believe Jesus is God. The Jew and Muslim do not. Why do you put the burden on me to change so as not to offend the others? How about the Jew, the Muslim and you change? Afterall, the “preponderance of evidence” supports the Christian view of Jesus.

It is interesting you close with this … “Keep doing your good works, and keep some room in your faith for those who think differently to also be right.” Your earlier comments leave the impression you leave no room for the devout Christian to be right.

"Conservatives argue that it is a woman's job to raise the kids." Wow, what a boat load of crap Ben. You are quite hateful towards your political opposites to the point where you can't stick to the facts but, instead, choose to falsely malign. I am a conservative and others like me who I know all agree children need a mom and a dad.

Surprise, that is how God ordained it. While there are times when divorce absolutely cannot be avoided, seems evident there are way many selfish men and women who decided there was no need to honor their vows or provide the environment their children deserve to grow up in. You're "very involved in father issues," well apparently not with regard to the most important duty of a dad, namely to love your child's mother.

    Ben,

It does not help your cause that you are so smug, but when you also misrepresent the facts while claiming to sit on the "side of truth," well I guess that pretty much discredits you completely. It is pretty clear to anyone with an open mind (this apparently does not include you) that Obama was dishonest and/or disingenuous with comments he made after the Libya attack.
