Snow, Sleet and Freezing Rain for Tonight

The National Weather Service is predicting some slippery conditions for tonight.

With snow transitioning to freezing rain by 10 p.m., things could get slippery out there in Marlborough. The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for much of New England. In Marlborough, the forecast details at least one inch of snow with precipitation transitioning over to freezing rain by 10 p.m. tonight. The chance of freezing rain will continue into Tuesday.

Evening Commute Could be a Breeze

National Weather Service issues wind advisory for this afternoon into early Wednesday.

Marlborough residents' evening commute could be a breeze — approaching 50 mph in some locations. The National Weather Service in Taunton has issued a wind advisory for 4 p.m. today to 6 a.m. Wednesday for all of Massachusetts (except Berkshire County), as well as Connecticut and Rhode Island. Gusts of 20 to 30 mph are expected, reaching 50 in some areas, the weather service reports on its website. Scattered power outages are possible due to downed tree limbs and power lines. Heavy rain — as much as an inch — also is expected tonight, the weather service reports.

Deep Freeze Making Travel Hazardous

Driving and walking could be problematic for the rest of the day.

The National Weather Service is warning of a flash freeze across much of eastern Massachusetts this afternoon including Marlborough. Temperatures have plummeted to below freezing after warmer weather turned the snowstorm into rain, freezing rain and sleet this morning. The National Weather Service is warning that untreated roads will become icy and is urging drivers and walkers to use extra caution this afternoon and evening. Meanwhile, Massachusetts State Police are reporting numerous skidding incidents and spinouts and are asking drivers to stay off the road, if possible, or drive slowly and leave plenty of space between vehicles.
