That is a fair comment, although this is more of a regional piece, and appears on multiple sites--so, localization to everywhere is a little hard to do. That said, we do have some more info on New Year's Needham, for interested parties: http://patch.com/A-0t1G   more ›

Metrowest Communities Unite For Stronger Voice

Regionalization is among the subjects that was discussed at a meeting in Shrewsbury.

Local communities hope to seize the power in numbers by joining forces to work toward shared concerns. Officials from several local communities, including Grafton, Marlborough, Shrewsbury and Westborough, attended a meeting last night at Shrewsbury Town Hall to talk about ways they could work together on issues of mutual interest. Unfunded mandates—issues that the state requires town to put in place but does not support financially—were one concern raised at the meeting. Others included the levels of local aid, special education funding and affordable housing mandates. Regionalization can be a way to save money, said Westborough selectman Denzil Drewry. Future town budgets will be lean, he said, and personnel cuts may be required. “We can’…

UPDATE: Mayor, Fidelity Comment on TJX Purchase in Marlborough

The TJX Corporation is reportedly paying $72 million, and will move a significant portion of their headquarters to Marlborough.

The TJX Corporation announced Wednesday that it is in the process of buying the soon-to-be-vacant Fidelity facilities in Marlborough. The owner of discount retail chains TJ Maxx and Marshalls, as well as HomeGoods, said they will transition a significant portion of their workforce to the two Puritan Drive locations sometime during the fall of 2013, according to a recent Boston Globe article. This news created significant buzz in the Metrowest area over the past day, with many excited about the prospect of one of the state's largest employers moving to Marlborough. “I am pleased to announce that the City of Marlborough and The TJX Companies, Inc. have agreed in principle to a Tax Increment Financing ("TIF") plan that would allow TJX to …

Yep. I worked for DEC right at the end. Both the company and Ken will be sorely missed. Digital was legendary in their support of community and employees, and TJX has a long history of benefitting the local area. As far as Fidelity goes, good riddance to the trash.   more ›

Snow Expected on Saturday

Snow will fall during most of Saturday in Marlborough and much of New England, according to the National Weather Service.

Marlborough may see 1 to 3 inches of snow over the weekend, according to the National Weather Service. NWS has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the area with rain and snow showers expected Friday night and steady snow on Saturday. The steady snow should taper off by 5 p.m. Saturday and then snow showers are expected Saturday night. The snowy conditions will be joined by fog and winds that may exceed 20 mph. NWS said there is a “moderate to high probability that winter weather advisories will be needed for a portion of southern New England.” The heaviest snowfall should hit southeastern Massachusetts, but NWS warned that a shift in the storm track could result in changes in the type of precipitation and amount. Letters to the Editor

LETTER: Cavaretta Announces Candidacy for State Senate

Local businessman Dean Cavaretta told supporters at the Halfway Cafe Monday night that he was going to make a run for it.

I am running for the State Senate to offer new policies that will put Education and the Economy first, in order to make MA more competitive for new JOBS. Not a failed, narrow policy agenda that has made the Great Recession and Housing Crisis worse and last longer. Experience matters, so I'll use my skills as a former teacher to support local Ed Reform.  As a former MA transportation official, I am uniquely positioned to accelerate much needed reforms with both parties to benefit our state economy.  In this race, my top issues are not my opponent’s top issues, and I am not running on his strengths I’m running on mine: I’ll work hard to represent all voters as an independent voice, and the only person capable of working with both sides …

Letters to the Editor

LETTER: Student Takes Issue with Youngs Dems View of Scott Brown

Area student defends Sen. Scott Brown's record.

This letter is in response one we published from the Young Democrats of Metrowest. To the Editor: Remember in National Lampoon’s classic “Animal House?” The part where Dean Wormer excoriates one of the Delta House brothers offering the following advice: “Son, Fat, dumb and stupid is no way to go through life!” While Dean Wormer’s words may be a bit harsh, they do ring true to some extent. I would suggest that the voters of Massachusetts ponder those brutally honest words of advice, and perhaps put them to use with a slight update: “Cynical, biased and partisan is no way to go through life!” This is exactly the advice I would provide to The Metro West Young Democrats on their recent criticisms of Senator Scott Brown regarding his efforts on…

Young Republican, remember, all of the lost jobs and the mortgage crises was because of regulations set long ago. In this this fast paced world, we want things fixed and our fixes to happen immediately. Things this big take a long time to fix, people do not want change especially when profits will be lost. Like our great leader said last night, unquote, we need to work together to make America …   more ›

Weather Service Predicts 4 to 6 Inches of Snow Saturday

NOAA predicts reasonably heavy snow throughout much of the day Saturday in Marlborough and the rest of southern New England.

The National Weather Service has issued a notice to many areas in southern New England, including the Marlborough area, advising residents of an upcoming snowstorm that could leave up to 6 inches on the ground.  Expected to begin sometime mid-Saturday morning, the storm will move in from the west and snow will accumulate quickly.  "Snow will accumulate quickly as the ground is already cold," said a release from the National Weather Service. "Untreated surfaces will become slippery quickly. Travelers are encouraged to allow extra time to reach their destinations." The Massachusetts State Police recently issued a statement advising drivers to be extra cautious during bad weather.  "Be mindful that wet, icy and snow-covered roads require …
