The police officer involved in the fatal shooting Monday night has been placed on paid administrative leave.
The officer involved in the shooting death of Bryce Coutinho has been placed on paid administrative leave. “It’s standard. He is on paid administrative leave right now,” said Police Chief Mark Leonard. The chief declined to comment on the department's ongoing internal investigation into the shooting, directing any questions to the Middlesex District Attorney's Office which is also investigating the shooting. According to officials, at approximately 8 p.m. Monday Marlborough Police responded to 52 Meadow Brook Road for a domestic disturbance and to assist in the removal of an unwanted person from a residence. The victim in the police shooting Monday night faced assault and battery charges.
The fatal run-in with police that ended in the death of 22 year-old Bryce Coutinho was not Coutinho's first interaction with police. Coutinho had been arrested on Nov. 2 on a warrant for charges of assault and battery relating back to an Oct. 3 incident. The warrant documents allege that Coutinho attempted to strangle a woman on that day. "She had slight red marks on her neck," wrote Marlborough Police Officer Michael Giaquinto, who had spoken to the alleged victim. The alleged assault was broken up upon the arrival of other people. Coutinho left that location and was involved in a car accident on Hosmer Street. There are multiple steps to be taken as the fatal shooting of a 22 year-old is investigated while the Marlborough Police Department conducts its own investigation.
With witnesses to interview and evidence to review, the investigation into the fatal shooting of Bryce Coutinho by a Marlborough police officer will take time. “We will be interviewing witnesses, taking statements and reviewing any and all evidence," said Stephanie Guyotte, a spokesperson for the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office. “There are a varierty of steps that are going to be taken." The Marlborough Police Department will also be conducting its own investigation in order to determine what, if any, steps to take in regards to the officers involved. Marquise Brown was found guilty for the murder of a 17-year-old that took place in Callahan State Park in Framingham in 2009.
WOBURN – A Marlborough man has been found guilty for the 2009 murder of a 17-year-old that occurred in Callahan State Park in Framingham, Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone said in a press release today. Marquise Brown, 20, was found guilty by a Middlesex jury on a charge of first degree murder following a seven-day trial in Middlesex Superior Court in Woburn. He will be sentenced Sept. 26. “The defendant senselessly shot and killed the victim in broad daylight in a public state park,” Leone said. “This case is another tragic example of a young person resorting to guns and violence to resolve perceived conflict. MPD are not trained and equipped to use tasers yet. They are currently training all officers but tasers can be just as lethal as a bullet. Also because not all of the facts are known; in cases of someone coming at you with a knife pepper spray may not deter them and they still may be able to reach you and injure or kill you.   more ›
