Massachusetts microbreweries have embraced the can in their summer beer offerings.
Cans are all the rage in the microbrew beer world this summer, according to Aaron Aykanian at the Vin Bin. "When all those people saw Sam Adams was doing it, everyone started doing it," said Aykanian who is the Vin Bin's beverage director and manager of the Hopkinton store. Summer is the time for canned beer, he said, whether it is because it makes a six pack lighter for hiking or lets you have a delicious beer by the pool. With companies like Sam Adams paving the way, Massachusetts breweries such as Berkshire Brewing and Wachusett Brewery are now offering their beers in cans.

A motorcyclist had to be airlifted following a recent accident while a wine tasting benefit is happening this weekend.
1. A motorcyclist in Hudson had to be air lifted following an accident in Hudson around 5 p.m. on Wednesday. No Marlborough safety workers responded to the scene of the accident, according to Fire Department officials. 2. The Solomon Pond Mall will be busy this weekend. Saturday the mall is hosting the 20th Annual UMASS Memorial Children’s Medical Center’s Teddy Bear Clinic. That day the mall will also be hosting the Heart Gallery Photography Exhibit. 3. The owner of the popular downtown store says that expanding into Hopkinton was always in his plans.
With the Vin Bin set to open a second location Wednesday, Owner Rick Lombardi said a second store in Hopkinton has been in his plans for five years. "We always wanted to be in Hopkinton. We have wanted to be in Hopkinton for five years," said Lombardi. The Vin Bin, a purveyor of fine wine, artisan cheese, specialty foods, craft beer and spirits opened its doors in 2004. The Vin Bin moved into the 100-year-old former Central Fire Station in 2011. The quality of life store has been touted for its contribution to downtown Marlborough. It is now set to do the same thing beginning at noon on Jan. 30 at 22 South Street in the new Price Chopper Plaza in Hopkinton. State Secretary Steven Grossman praised small businesses and Marlborough as a community during a visit to the Vin Bin Thursday.
State Treasurer Steven Grossman spoke highly of Marlborough as a community while he toured the Vin Bin Thursday. "I love Marlborough. I feel Marlborough in so many ways is a pioneering community," said Grossman. Part of that pioneering spirit is reinterpreting the downtown and businesses in the city, he said. The Vin Bin and the Marlborough Savings Bank which loaned the money for its Main Street location and a new location in Hopkinton as just such community businesses, said Grossman. “The Vin Bin is the kind of place we are hoping to target with our Small Business Banking Partnership,” said Treasurer Grossman. “The backbone of this commonwealth is small business." State Treasurer Steven Grossman will tour the Vin Bin tomorrow.
State Treasurer Steven Grossman will tour of The Vin Bin in Marlborough this coming Thursday. The Vin Bin is the recipient of a loan made by the Marlborough Savings Bank leveraged through the Treasury’s Small Business Banking Partnership. The financing helped to create seven jobs in Marlborough and will facilitate the opening of a new Vin Bin location which will create 10 or more jobs in Hopkinton, according to a release from the Treasurer's office. Rick Lombardi, owner of The Vin Bin, Rick Bennett, President & CEO, Marlborough Savings Bank, Marlborough Mayor Arthur Vigeant and State Representative Danielle Gregoire will also be at the event.

From a cheese festival this weekend to continued work through the STEM program; we have what you need to know in Marlborough right here.
1. The 8th Annual Vin Bin Wine and Cheese Festival will be held this Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m. It sounds like a fun time right in the downtown and is free to anyone interested. 2. A rugby team has come through with 200 pounds of food for the United Way of Tri-County in Marlborough. 3. Something must have been in the water, or in this case the oil, as it was a big day for accidents Wednesday. Did you have any close calls? 4. Marlborough continues to lag behind in MCAS scores. This comes as the district continues a focus on STEM Early College High School Program which is attempting to bring a more hands-on style of education to the classroom. 5. Yes, the shop in the downtown landmark is really a liquor store.
By a wide margin, Patch readers chose The Vin Bin as Marlborough's favorite liquor store. Located inside the town's former central fire station, The Vin Bin garnered 126 votes, more than 60 percent of the 204 total votes. Vin Bin co-owner Rick Lombardi is out of the country on a wine tour and was unable to be reached for comment. The Vin Bin used its Facebook page to encourage followers to vote and it cetainly has its share of fans. With a full liquor license now in place, The Vin Bin sells a range of spirits as well as cheese and speciality foods. Marlborough Wine & Spirits was the second favorite of readers, with 12 percent of the vote.
