The brunt of the storm is behind us, but will you see your mail today?
An inquisitive reader asked if mail delivery will happen today after so much snow overnight. The answer is that mail service in all of New England — not just Massachusetts — has been suspended, according to the Huffington Post. The ban extends throughout all six New England states. The unusual decision was made due to safety concerns, according to Postal Service spokeswoman Christine Dugas. The decision came after over two feet of snow falling throughout much of New England made many roads impassable, she said. She reminded people to clear around their mailboxes or paths to their homes by Monday when mail delivery will resume.

A new "Forever" stamp will allow customers to mail letters anywhere in the world for $1.10.
It's time to stock up on stamps — before postage rates increase again. The cost of sending most letters and packages will jump slightly Jan. 27 when the US Postal Service ups its rates to help cover the costs of delivering the mail. Forever Stamps, the ones that remain good despite future postal rate increases, will increase to 46 cents. Facing bankruptcy, the U.S. Postal Service is planning to close post offices and processing centers, which could result in slower delivery times.
An estimated $3 billion in U.S. Postal Service reductions is expected to create delivery delays for the first time in decades. Details of the wide-sweeping changes, which are expected to include closing 3,700 local post offices and cutting 100,000 employees, are expected to be released today, The Huffington Post reported. Saturday delivery, which has been in question as the postal service faces bankruptcy, will remain for at least two years. The cuts would reportedly close roughly 250 of the nearly 500 mail processing centers across the country as early as next March. I still get multiple deliveries per day (sometimes 3 or 4 at Christmas). They just come from multiple parcel delivery services. Most if not all, operating more efficiently than the USPS. more ›
