Of all the people affected by 9/11, young children were often spared the gritty details and the broad implications of the events that transpired. Marlborough Patch recently had the opportunity to sit down with a half-dozen seniors at Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School, and talk to them about their memories and the personal impact of that date that many took time to remember on Sunday, the 10th anniversary of the attacks. As the nation remember 9/11, 10 years later, we ask Marlborough residents to tell us where you were and give us your thoughts of the day then and now.
This is a venue through which you and your circle of friends are invited to share your memories of the events of 9/11. Where were you? How did you find out? How did the news affect you? Did you have friends or loved ones near Ground Zero? 9/11 is one of those pivotal events in history where almost everyone remembers where they were and what they were doing when it happened. Just as the Kennedy assassination marked the 1960s, the events of September 11, 2001 shaped the first decade of the new millennium. Encourage your friends and family to share their stories as well (by recommending this story on Facebook), and together we can create our own memorial right here on Marlborough Patch. Also, if you can, don't forget to participate in the …

It seems impossible that it has been 10 years since that bright, late summer Tuesday morning. By 10 a.m. on that day most people in this country were at their jobs, but no one was working. We all watched in disbelief and confusion, then in fear, anger and despair as we began to understand what was unfolding before our eyes. While some were stunned or mourning, others demanded retaliation; And while some were reserved in their response, others sprung into action through volunteerism or even by joining our armed forces. Ten years later, we can look back and see the full scope of the impact this event has had on our nation and its people. We are in two wars, the culprit has been (recently) killed, the reconstruction effort at Ground Zero has …

Parents must be prepared to answer questions honestly and offer reassurance.
Sunday marks the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. As Americans across the country witnessed hijacked planes crash into the Twin Towers, the Pentagon and the ground of Pennsylvania, life as we knew it was forever altered. Innocent bystanders became victims as America was stripped of the freedoms we had for so long taken for granted. Across the country people watched on television and listened on the radio, fear and sorrow filling hearts and souls to overflowing. As we have become accustomed to the post 9/11 “new normal” and as we approach the tenth anniversary of the day that history was rewritten, it is easy to forget that America’s youngsters have forever lived in a post 9/11 world. They did not bear witness …

I was a senior sitting in Mrs. Toohey's musicn class at Marlborough High School. I remember that her daughter was flying somewhere that day. I went to the cafeteria, like many of the other seniors and watched the second plane crash from a tv that was set up in the caf. I left school before lunch and spent the rest of that day watching the horrible events unfold on the news. I now teach at the high…   more ›
