A winter weather advisory has been issued for much of Massachusetts and New England, with forecasters expecting one to three inches of snow to accumulate in the Marlborough area. The advisory is in effect from 1 a.m. Thursday, until 1 p.m. in the afternoon. "Driving and walking on untreated roadways and sidewalks will be difficult," said a release from the National Weather Service. "Motorists need to be especially careful on bridges, overpasses and secondary roadways where slippery spots can easily develop." The weather, as many have already seen, took a turn toward winter Wednesday. The National Weather Service early Wednesday morning issued a hazardous weather outlook for much of New England, including Marlborough and much of Central and Eastern Massachusetts. Rain will continue Wednesday, turning to snow overnight as a cold front moves in, according to the outlook. A "low probability" exists for one to two inches of snow in the area late Wednesday, which should produce slippery conditions on roads and slow the Thursday commute. As temperatures drop, the Massachusetts State Police warn that icy road conditions could develop. "The timing of the storm will leave messy conditions for the Thursday morning commute," said police. Of particular …

If you are headed out on the road this Wednesday to visit friends and family in time for the Thanksgiving holiday, you are likely to see at least one form of precipitation. Heavy rain is predicting for most of the day in Marlborough and for much of central Massachusetts and points south, while those headed north should think about putting the snow tires on. The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for most of Tuesday night and Wednesday. "Heavy rainfall of 1 to 3 inches will result in urban and poor drainage flooding on Wednesday," said the statement. "There is a low probability that strong north winds may reach wind advisory criteria Wednesday night along the eastern Massachusetts coast." Points in New …

It took over 4,000 employees from 13 states and 2 countries to return power after the Oct. 29 Nor'easter, according to a National Grid statement.
At 9 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6, National Grid issued a statement confirming that power is now restored in Massachusetts. For Marlborough, that means the estimated 18,200 residential and commercial customers can now see the light. “This storm created a tremendous hardship for many of our customers and I am truly grateful for their patience during this ordeal,” said Marcy Reed, National Grid president, Massachusetts. “In more than 20 years working for National Grid and its predecessor company, Mass Electric, this is by far the worst and most widespread damage I have seen on our system.” A 12-hour snow storm hit Marlborough in the late afternoon of Saturday, Oct. 29. Heavy, wet snow took down trees and wires across the town. Widespread power …

National Grid reported that just 18 customers were without power in Marlborough as of early afternoon on Thursday. That number was down from over a 1,000 a day ago, and down 30,000 from the original number of customers without service in Marlborough. Area schools canceled for the first two days of the week, but resumed classes Wednesday while several roads remained blocked and some families were out of town due to the power situation. "I have a wife and two children," said Marlborough resident Sean Pollard. "We were forced to vacate our property on Monday evening as the temperature dipped below 50 degrees farhenheit. We could see our breath in the house from Sunday night on." Pollard's family left Marlborough until their power was …
