Schools Aim for Normality Following Boston Bombing

Marlborough Schools are aiming for a safe and normal return to classes this week.

The Marlborough Public Schools are looking to create as normal an environment as possible for students as they return to school following at week of vacation and the Boston Marathon bombing. “It saddens everyone. It is going to sadden our students," said Interim Superintendent Steven Dlott. “We want to assure the kids you are in a safe environment and want to make the day as normal as possible." This event is so close to home for many of the students, he said. Whether it was just watching the TV coverage or students were in attendance at the marathon or knew someone who was, this tragedy affects the whole community. “This one really hits home in a certain sense ... a student may have been at the finish line or known someone affected," said…

District Seeks Permanent Replacement for Pope

The search for a full-time superintendent has begun.

The search for a permanent superintendent for Marlborough is set to kick off tonight as the School Committee reviews three companies who are vying for a contract to help the district find a candidate. The equation is simple, said Interim Superintendent Steven Dlott, and it includes more superintendent positions than there are individuals looking for the position. The solution he gave to the school committee was to begin their search as soon as possible. Dlott said at last week's committee meeting that a vote could occur for the committee as soon as tonight if they feel they have enough information. The search is the result of the resignation of former Superintendent Anthony Pope in July. His resignation followed months of controversy and …

Wow! What ever took so darn long to start this very important process? Was it because legally his contract was not up until recently, or what? Just when the Marlborough School System was getting its act together for a change, and now more delays? Lets hope this is seamless to all students and parents of the District, because if it's not, they'll be issues to contend with, not a doubt about that …   more ›
