Police Shooting of Marlborough Man Ruled Justifiable
A police-involved shooting has been ruled justified following an investigation by multiple agencies.
The fatal shooting of Bryce Coutinho by a Marlborough Police officer has been ruled justified following an investigation by multiple agencies. "The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office has determined that the response of the officer was justifiable under the law to effect lawful objectives, including the need to protect himself from the immediate threat of death or serious bodily injury from the subject who ignored repeated warnings to drop the knife and advanced on the officer with that knife in a small confined space with no reasonable means of escape," stated a Press Release from the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office. Police Shooting Victim Faced Assault and Battery Charge
The victim in the police shooting Monday night faced assault and battery charges.
The fatal run-in with police that ended in the death of 22 year-old Bryce Coutinho was not Coutinho's first interaction with police. Coutinho had been arrested on Nov. 2 on a warrant for charges of assault and battery relating back to an Oct. 3 incident. The warrant documents allege that Coutinho attempted to strangle a woman on that day. "She had slight red marks on her neck," wrote Marlborough Police Officer Michael Giaquinto, who had spoken to the alleged victim. The alleged assault was broken up upon the arrival of other people. Coutinho left that location and was involved in a car accident on Hosmer Street. Fatal Police Shooting Investigation will Take Time
There are multiple steps to be taken as the fatal shooting of a 22 year-old is investigated while the Marlborough Police Department conducts its own investigation.
With witnesses to interview and evidence to review, the investigation into the fatal shooting of Bryce Coutinho by a Marlborough police officer will take time. “We will be interviewing witnesses, taking statements and reviewing any and all evidence," said Stephanie Guyotte, a spokesperson for the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office. “There are a varierty of steps that are going to be taken." The Marlborough Police Department will also be conducting its own investigation in order to determine what, if any, steps to take in regards to the officers involved. Fatal Police-Involved Shooting Under Investigation
A fatal police-involved shooting of a man with a knife on Monday night is under investigation by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.
The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office is conducting an investigation into the facts and circumstances surrounding a fatal police-involved shooting that occurred Monday evening at 52 Meadow Brook Road in Marlborough. According to a release from the office, at approximately 8 p.m. Monday Marlborough Police responded to 52 Meadowbrook Road for a domestic disturbance to assist in the removal of an unwanted person from a residence. Upon arrival, police were confronted by a man armed with a knife, according to officials. A Marlborough police officer discharged his weapon, according to the District Attorney's Office.
