LETTER: Elected Officials Write Labor Chief Concerning Direct Air

Sen. John Kerry, Sen. Scott Brown and Rep. James McGovern asked Labor Secretary Ray LaHood to ensure reimbursement to customers affected by the recent Direct Air announcement.

Dear Secretary LaHood: As you may know, Direct Air, a South Carolina based public charter airline, cancelled all flights between March 13 and May 15, 2012. We are writing to strongly urge your Department to take swift action using all available enforcement powers to ensure that Direct Air is in compliance with federal statutes and regulations requiring that consumers who purchased air travel on Direct Air are protected and funds escrowed to reimburse them. Direct Air serves 17 cities along the East Coast, including Worcester Regional Airport in Worcester, Massachusetts. Direct Air provides services from Worcester to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and West Palm Beach, Orlando and Fort Myers in Florida. We understand Direct Air’s service …

LETTER: Student Takes Issue with Youngs Dems View of Scott Brown

Area student defends Sen. Scott Brown's record.

This letter is in response one we published from the Young Democrats of Metrowest. To the Editor: Remember in National Lampoon’s classic “Animal House?” The part where Dean Wormer excoriates one of the Delta House brothers offering the following advice: “Son, Fat, dumb and stupid is no way to go through life!” While Dean Wormer’s words may be a bit harsh, they do ring true to some extent. I would suggest that the voters of Massachusetts ponder those brutally honest words of advice, and perhaps put them to use with a slight update: “Cynical, biased and partisan is no way to go through life!” This is exactly the advice I would provide to The Metro West Young Democrats on their recent criticisms of Senator Scott Brown regarding his efforts on…

Young Republican, remember, all of the lost jobs and the mortgage crises was because of regulations set long ago. In this this fast paced world, we want things fixed and our fixes to happen immediately. Things this big take a long time to fix, people do not want change especially when profits will be lost. Like our great leader said last night, unquote, we need to work together to make America …   more ›

OP ED: Young Democrats Call Out Senator Brown

Those from Marlborough and the rest of the Metrowest Young Democrats offer their opinion on our Massachusetts leadership.

As you get older, you look back on the wisdom and advice adults offered to you as you grew up.  There are a lot of things grown-ups always like to say to children. Values and wisdom so commonly repeated they are accepted as axioms.  Education is the key to your future. Stand up for what you believe. Treat people like you want to be treated. One of the most difficult realizations I’ve come to lately is that some of the adults who preach these lessons don’t really mean it. Over the last year, we called, tweeted, and emailed our two U.S. Senators to ask them to vote for a bill that would help improve our schools and put people back to work.  It was President Obama’s Teachers and First Responders Back to Work Act, a bill that would have …

The jobs bill Obama proposed isn't the only way to get things done. Just because Obama tells you that doesn't mean it's fact. Yeah, the top income earners shouldn't be getting BS tax cuts, but you start by cutting wasteful spending..not just cutting spending for the sake of cutting spending but cutting WASTE..I think we can all agree wasteful government is doing nobody any good. I hope? And when …   more ›

State Sen. Eldridge Votes NO on Casinos

A casino bill passed in the state senate last week with Marlborough's Jamie Eldridge saying no.

This release was provided by the office of State Senator Jamie Eldridge.  Democratic State Sen. Jamie Eldridge voted Thursday against legislation to expand gambling by authorizing three casinos and one slot parlor in the Commonwealth. Eldridge was joined by 13 other colleagues in opposing the bill, which passed 24-14. “I strongly believe expanding gambling in Massachusetts will harm our local small businesses and our communities, and that’s why I voted no. We need revenues and jobs here in Massachusetts, but casinos aren’t the answer. There are better ways, less destructive ways, to solve our fiscal problems and make the Commonwealth a better place to live.” Eldridge, a long-time opponent of expanded gambling, pointed to numerous studies …

This gathering was part of a nationwide protest, "Jobs Not Cuts," organized by the group. In an e-mail to its members, MoveOn.org stated, "Disgust, frustration, and anger. That's what the country is feeling over the debt ceiling deal." This past July 16, Laura Wagner, of Marlborough, hosted a We Build the Dream gathering at her home. The attendees formed what is now the Marlborough council of MoveOn.…
