First Day Feelings: Marlborough Schools

Administrators reflected on their past experiences with the first day as students as well as their favorite parts of the first day of school now.

As students file off of buses and into the classroom today, some will be wracked with nerves and others full to the brim with excitement. As it turns out, these feelings were no different for school administrators when they were attending school. "The new bookbag and the new lunch box. Those were my favorite things," said Maria Silletti, the principal at Richar School."The fresh crayons and the smelly markers ... all that fun stuff." For Mary Murphy, the principal at Whitcomb Middle School, it was the first day outfit that she looked forward to the most. "I always loved dressing up on the first day," she said. 5 Things You Need to Know Today: Aug. 28

There is a lot going on with schools today, from the first day of school tomorrow to a school committee meeting tonight.

1. Summer will be officially finished as of tomorrow morning for many parents as school starts for the Marlborough public schools. This is a last minute reminder to dust off those backpacks and lunchboxes and prepare for tomorrow. 2. The School Committee is meeting tonight in executive session at 6 p.m. and regular session at 7:30 p.m. 3. Open door days will be held at the Whitcomb Middle School from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and at the Jaworek, Kane & Richer schools from 2:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. 4. The Master Singers of Worcester will be holding auditions beginning today and September 4 for their upcoming four-concert season at 7:15 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Shrewsbury.
