The Metro West region is in store for another walloping of snow. When Marlborough residents wake up Friday they are likely to see their driveways full of the white stuff they've recently spent so much time removing. The National Weather Service is reporting the area will receive up to eight inches of snow before early Friday afternoon with temperatures hovering in the mid-20s. The morning commute should be pretty hairy says weather.com with "significant impact on the Friday morning rush hour." As of 7:30 p.m. municipal offices and Marlborough Public Schools are scheduled to go with business as usual, but stayed tuned to Patch throughout the evening for updates.

The Marlborough Public Schools will be closed today due to the poor weather conditions. Assabet Valley schools will be closed as well. The Department of Public Works is delaying trash pick-up in Marlborough by one day this week due to the snowstorm. Those scheduled to receive a pick-up today will get it tomorrow; Thursday on Friday; and Friday on Saturday. With temperatures projected to hover just around 30 degrees all day, the roads will be plenty slippery. If you have to go out, drive very carefully. As the day progresses and the roads get better, you may want to take the kids out sledding to one of the various hills in town such as Ghiloni Park. The 6:30 p.m. DPW meeting has been postponed until further notice. The state court system …

I think "non-essential" is a term often used during these situations. It simply means employees can work from home, and the danger involved with traveling to respective offices outweighs the benefits of them being present. Essential workers would obviously be state road crews, police, etc. Thanks for all the input!   more ›
