Masked Robber, Cocaine and Drinking Binge

The Marlborough police dealt with a masked robber and an alleged cocaine dealer this week.

Marlborough police made a number of arrests this week, but three major incidents began the week. An alleged cocaine dealer was arrested in the city. The woman reportedly told police she moved 10 grams of cocaine a week in order to help with her bills. A masked robber didn't disguise himself well enough when he allegedly robbed a delivery person. The delivery person reportedly identified the knife-wielding robber and police promptly arrested him. A reported three week drinking binge landed one man in jail. After he was arrested on charges of operating under the influence of liquor, police were reportedly told by his wife that he had been on a drinking binge.

Attempted Robber Punched in Face, Arrested at Mall

An attempted robber got a punch to the face after allegedly demanding cash at the Solomon Pond Mall.

After allegedly demanding cash from another man and threatening to throw him over a railing, a Shrewsbury man came away with a punch to the face and robbery charges. "The victim squirmed off the railing and punched Caira in the face in self defense and got away," said Detective Scott DeCiero of the Community Services Bureau of the Marlborough Police Department. Police were given the story by the victim after they were called to the Solomon Pond Mall for a disturbance, according to Marlborough Police. When the police arrived, shortly before 7 p.m. on Saturday, they were told that Dean Anthony Caira, 17, of 25 Eaglehead Cove Apt. 1A in Shrewsbury had allegedly approached the victim and demanded he give Caira all his money. Burglaries: How to Keep Your Neighborhood Safe

The police have given suggestions to keep your home and neighborhood safe after a rash of recent midday break-ins.

Police are asking neighbors to be extra observant following a number of daytime break-ins that have occurred in Marlborough. “The main point of us releasing the info was to try to make people more vig and more aware," said Police Chief Mark Leonard. Keeping the neighborhood safe is a matter of being extra observant and not brushing off things that look out of place, he said. This can be as simple as watching for an extra minute if someone is walking up to a neighbors house or taking down a license plate number of a suspicious vehicle and calling police. “We would rather chase that call that turns out to be nothing than have people wish they had made the call," said Chief Leonard. Marlborough Savings Bank Robbed, Possibly at Gunpoint

The robbery occurred around 1:45 p.m. Tuesday and the suspect remains at large.

Marlborough Savings Bank on Boston Post Road was robbed Tuesday afternoon by a man who showed bank employees a handgun.  Police at the scene said they were searching for a black male between 5'8'' and 5'10'' wearing a brown hooded jacket. They distributed a surveillance photo of the robbery that showed the suspect reaching into the inside pocket of his coat.  "He made indications that he had a weapon in his jacket," said Marlborough Police Det. Robert Bonina.  Bonina said that based on surveiillance and witness reports, it appeared the man arrived and left the scene on foot, walking around the back of bank and possibly into the parking lot at Avalon West apartments, which abuts the parking area for the bank. Police Foil Robbery on Red Spring Road

The Marlborough Police Department arrested a Hudson man as he tried to make a getaway.

The Marlborough Police Department caught one would be thief red-handed Monday afternoon as he tried to make his escape.  Zachary J. Hurd, 33, of 12 Lake Boone Dr., Hudson, was arrested when police blocked SUV from leaving the dirt expanse of Red Spring Road.  This was after a neighbor observed Hurd carrying items from 55 Red Spring Rd. to his car, then called the police.  "Officers stopped a car traveling at a high rate of speed, then observed a large Sony television in the back seat," said Detective Scott DeCiero. "We contacted the owner of the house and they confirmed that the individual did not have permission to be in the house." Home Invasion Suspect Arrested After Leaving Police a Snowy Trail

A North Bigelow Street home invasion was solved quickly Saturday evening after the suspect led police to her doorstep.

A local woman has been arrested after breaking into a North Bigelow Street home Saturday evening, then leaving a trail a trail of snowy footprints all the way to her own front door.  Marlborough Police responded to a 911 call around 9 p.m. when an elderly resident woke to find an intruder in her bedroom.  "An elderly female reported that someone had broken in to her home and was still inside when she called," said Det. Scott DeCiero. "The reporter observed someone at the foot of her bed and then watched the person flee after yelling out."  According to police records, the intruder threw the reporter's purse down on the bed and fled the home on foot. Police Ask for Help Locating Marlborough Home Invasion Suspect

Another suspect and Marlborough resident is in custody on his fourth arrest of 2011.

The Marlborough Police Department has issued a plea asking for help locating a prime suspect in recent home invasion robberies.  Police believe that Jeffrey Platt, 20, of Marlborough was involved in several robberies over a course of three to four months.  Armed with a search warrant, Marlborough detectives entered Platt's home on Nov. 22 and uncovered multiple items stolen from area residents during the robberies. It is unknown if Platt committed the robberies or was simply storing the stolen goods at his home, said a Fox 25 report.  Platt is featured prominently on the Mass Most Wanted website which describes him as having a medium height and build.
