Ate lunch there last week with a friend and the roast beef sandwiches were excellent quality, very fresh and delicious. I would recommend Nick's Roast Beef for the sandwiches, haven't tried anything else there yet....   more ›

You Review: Taqueria La Tapatia

Sometimes described as a hidden culinary gem in Marlborough, Taqueria La Tapatia offers authentic Mexican food.

The outward appearance of Taqueria La Tapatia can at first be confusing, situated in what appears to be the back of a large white house transformed into apartments. Most likely many have driven past, never noticing its existence on the corner of Pleasant and Lincoln streets. Taqueria La Tapatia may be the definition of "a dive." (Translated: a hole-in-the-wall establishment). In our experience eateries falling under the "dive" category are either a delightful gem or a frightening foray into the darker side of culinary exploration. Luckily, we found this Mexican eatery to be the former—a well-kept secret within the Marlborough community. But what are your thoughts on this spot? When Marlborough Patch reviewed this location last year, …

Piccadilly Pub Appears to be Gone for Good

The Marlborough and other Piccadilly Pub locations are up for lease.

Almost two months after the Piccadilly Pub on Bolton Street closed its doors without notice, the company that owns the property has issued a sign that the restaurant will not reopen. "The landlords for the Piccadilly Pub restaurant chain have acquired its bank obligations and are seeking new tenants for the properties it occupied in Massachusetts," the landlords' attorney wrote in a letter to Auburn, MA officials as reported by the Worcester Business Journal. Restaurant chain owner Elephant & Castle filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in June of 2011, and the business that ran the nine Piccadilly Pub locations in Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Pub Group (MPG), reportedly owes the State of Massachusetts almost $460,000 in overdue …

As a former bartender at the Marlborough Pub, It was very sad to see it go. I worked there for 16 years and made a lot of friends and family along the way. But, I too do not want to see another chain there either. I do not think a upscale resteraunt would do well with this current economy. I think someone local would do much better. " Real People" know what the people want not some corporation. …   more ›

This place used to be really good a long time ago. Last time we were there was about a year ago and we will never go back. There was food stuck on the walls, seats and who knows where else. If the diningroom looked the way it did I can only imagine what the kitchen looked like. Adding a 4th " D" for disgusting to say the least.   more ›

Restaurant Reporter

OPINION: Counter Service at Jake's

Jake's Restaurant & Coffee Shop provides hearty meals in a cozy atmosphere.

With a long dining counter complete with swivel stools and a section devoted to tables, Jake's Restaurant feels like a marriage between a traditional diner and a cozy eatery. The menu boasts all of the staples of a hearty breakfast such as a variety of eggs benedict, breakfast sandwiches and omelets of which the claim is posted on the menu that they will make any type of omelet one might crave. For some early morning carb loading, try the giant portion of french toast combined with a steaming side of freshly made hash browns. Dress up the hash browns with bacon bits, scallions, sour cream and cheddar cheese by ordering them loaded. But don't be fooled by their reputation for good, hearty breakfasts. Jake's also has a wide variety of lunch …
