Tennis Fundraiser for Life Flight Accident Victim

Local tennis players have come together to raise funds for one of their own who was injured recently in an accident on Parmenter Street.

Local tennis players are coming together Friday night during a fundraiser for Mike Mashkevich who was severely injured in an accident that sent three to the hospital. “I think the tennis community is really rallying around him and doing everything they can," said Steve Winer, director of Tennis at the Wayside Racquet & Swim Club who explained Mike is making strides in his recovery after recently coming out of a coma. "He is in the right place medically. We are trying to do what we can as a club." Mike is a United States Tennis Association 5.0 rated player of Central Mass League who plays in the Men's A League from Wayside Racquet & Swim Club. Life Flight Accident Victim Out of Coma

Mike Mashkevich is out of his coma but faces months of rehabilitation as he works on how to speak and access memories before physical therapy.

Those that survive an intense car crash can face months of rehabilitation towards a life that will be much different than the one they used to lead. “(Mike) is getting better every day but he is quite confused sometimes," said his girlfriend Nela Rudicka, explaining that it will be six to twelve months before his true mental state is known. “We are not sure how he is going to be or how much he remembers." Mike Mashkevich, who recently turned 25, lives in Marlborough and is a Senior Programmer Analyst at the Staples Corporate Office in Framingham and Stonehill College alumni.
