Local Officers Helped with Watertown Manhunt

Two Marlborough Police Officers were applauded for the work they did last week as part of a regional S.W.A.T. team following the Boston Marathon bombing.

Two Marlborough police officers said they were just doing their job when they responded to Boston in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombing. "It was my pleasure and honor to represent the city," said Det. Robert Bonina. "We were support for all the law enforcement teams that were down there." The two officers were honored at a City Council meeting for responding to Boston as part of a S.W.A.T. unit with the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council. The officers filled multiple roles throughout Boston, beginning by securing hospitals then screening areas in preparation for the president's visit. Additional Break-ins Under Investigation

The investigation into a series of daytime robberies continues as additional robberies have been reported.

A police investigation into a series of daytime robberies continues as more break-ins have been reported. Marlborough Police Detective Scott DeCiero, of the Community Services Bureau, said the investigation contunies into the daytime break-ins the department issued a press release about recently. At the time, police were investigating three to four break-ins that fit the description of other break-ins in surrounding communities. Additional break-ins have occured in Marlborough, said DeCiero, but those are still under investigation. Part of that investigation will be to determine if there is a connection to the previous daytime break-ins, he said. "It's impossible to say if they are connected," said DeCiero. Officer Involved in Shooting Back on Duty

The Marlborough Police Officer whose actions were being investigated following a police-involved shooting has returned to active duty.

Marlborough Police Officer Soren Levenson, who has been on paid administrative leave since the fatal shooting of Bryce Coutinho in November, returned to active duty last week, according to police officials. Levenson was placed on leave, following standard protocol, during an investigation by multiple agencies of the fatal November 12 shooting. The findings that the shooting was justifiable was announced yesterday by the Middlesex District Attorney's Office. The decision to have Levenson return to active duty was a combination of a number of factors, including his well-being, said police officials. Chemical Plant Fire and Police Overtime

From a fire at a chemical plant on Friday to a request for over $200,000 in additional overtime to the police and fire departments; it was a big week for safety officials and personnel.

The week started out with a bureaucratic moment for the police and fire departments when Mayor Arthur Vigeant requested an additional $215,000 in overtime for the departments. The money is said to cover overtime due to vacancies and injuries. Additional firefighters and police officers will help to curb this overtime in the future, said the mayor. Police injuries were reported a number of times this week. There is no news on the severity of the injuries as this is something the police department does not release information on. Firefighters had their hands full on Thursday when two separate structure fires had them rushing to two sides of the city throughout the day. The first fire occured at the Down Chemical Plant on Forest Street. That …

$215,000 in Police and Fire Overtime Requested

Mayor Arthur Vigeant has requested an additional $215,000 in overtime for the Police and Fire Department.

Mayor Arthur Vigeant said overtime spending is being brought under control even as he requested an additional $215,605.48 in overtime for the Police and Fire Department. "Although we have a ways to go, I am pleased we are moving in the right direction," wrote Mayor Vigeant in a letter to the City Council regarding the police overtime. Overtime in both departments is down compared to the same time last year, he said. The costs are planned to be further controlled in the future by filling open positions. Two Flee After Heights Incident

They allegedly tried to steal a laundry room vending machine.

Two males fled the Heights at Marlborough apartments after allegedly trying to steal a laundry vending machine there late Friday night. A State Police K-9 searched the area around the complex, but found nothing, Marlborough Police Sgt. Ronald Ney said today. The incident at 39 Briarwood Lane was reported at 11:16 p.m. Friday, Ney said.
