Man "Horribly" Fails Sobriety Tests

A man was arrested for operating under the influence after he allegedly hit a parked vehicle in Marlborough.

Police arrested a man Monday night after he reportedly crashed his car and registered over the legal limit for alcohol. "Mr. Cartmell elected to take field sobriety tests. He failed all 3 tests horribly," wrote Marlborough Police Officer Michael Giaquinto in his police report. Police were called to Farm Road near the airport following an accident where a car reportedly driven by James W. Cartmell, 57, of 139 Broadmeadow Road Apt. 1A had struck a parked ice truck which pushed another parked car in front of it three car lengths forward. Fire officials were already at the scene when police began speaking to Cartmell. "During our conversation I detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emenating from his person," wrote Giaquinto in his …

Man Allegedly Assaults Roommate With Steak Knife, Guitar

A Marlborough man has been accused of assaulting a roommate with an acoustic guitar early Tuesday morning.

Police arrested a Marlborough man after he allegedly assaulted his roomate with a steak knife, acoustic guitar and then bit him. "The defendent grabbed the kitchen steak knife and cut his hand with it,” said Marlborough Police Detective Paul DeCiero. "He then grabbed a guitar and hit the victim at least two times." Police arrived at Short Street after an assault was reported. An investigation indicated that Harold A. Garcia, 23, of 49 Short Street Apt. 3 had assaulted his roommate with a steak knife and guitar before biting his nipple and hitting him multiple times, according to court reports. Man Allegedly Takes Anger Out on Ex's TV

A Marlborough man has been charged with a felony after he allegedly kicked an ex-girlfriend's TV.

A man has been charged with felony breaking and entering after he allegedly broke into an ex-girlfriends apartment and took his anger out on her 40 inch TV. Police arrested William F. Lopez-Beundia, 27, of 35 Sumner Street Apt. 1 on Pleasant Street Friday night on charges of entering a dwelling at night for a felony and wanton destruction of more than $250 in property. According to court documents, the incident began earlier that evening when an intoxicated Lopez-Beundia encountered a former girlfriend and her children at the carnival. It was then that he reportedly told her "he was going to take the kids away for good," according to court documents. When the woman returned home she founds two mirrors and a 40 inch TV valued at $400 …

Man Arrested on OUI Wanted by Immigration

A man who failed three field sobriety tests is also wanted by immigration officials.

Police arrested a man early Sunday morning who registered a blood alcohol content of more than double the legal limit. Police arrested Gustavo Palencia R. Lopez, 31, of 846 Boston Post Road East at 1:29 a.m. Sunday morning on Boston Post Road East after observing multiple marked lane violations, according to court documents. When police pulled him over, they noticed the odor of alcohol from his breath and he failed three field sobriety tests, according to a police report. When tested, he registered a .18 percent blood alcohol content, over twice the legal limit of .08 percent, according to court documents. Lopez admitted to drinking Saturday night. Active Shooter Scenario At Hospital Drill

A scenario with an active shooter was part of a preparedness drill conducted at the Marlborough Hospital this week.

Preparation comes in many different forms for police and other emergency personnel and on Wednesday that meant running through an active shooter scenario at the Marlborough Hospital. "In the event we ever had to resp to a school shooter being able to get in there and train in there is very helpful," said Police Chief Mark Leonard of doing preparedness drills in area schools, hospitals and office buildings. “Departments have really been focusing on these (trainings) since the most well known incident which is the columbine incident." Marlborough police, a S.W.A.T. unit with the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council, emergency medical services, the fire department, hospital staff and other emergency personnel participated.
