100 Years Ago: Immaculate Conception Takes 300 Students from Public Schools

Sept. 6, 1911: Not Work for All the Teachers: Problem Confronts School Board as There Are 300 Pupils Less Than Last Year Members of the school board were in thoughtful mood Tuesday evening when they discussed a policy made necessary by the opening of the new parochial school of the Immaculate Conception parish.  Supt. O.A. Morton made a report in which he showed that the number of pupils in the public schools the opening day was 300 less than was the case a year ago. July 26, 1911: Spanish War Vets Reunion: Celebrate Anniversary of Landing of Co, F, 6th Mass. Reg.  at Porto Rico The annual reunion of Company F, 6th Regt., Spanish War Veterans took place at the Nebegonga boat club house, Fort Meadow, Tuesday afternoon, the anniversary of the day on which the company landed on Porto Rico during the Spanish war  The attendance of several members at other attractions kept down the attendance, but still there were 27 present. 100 Years Ago: Marlborough Boy Injured When Bike, Auto Collide

Six days a weeks (Mon—Sat) Marlborough Patch will highlight an interesting story from the Marlborough Daily Enterprise published on that date 100 years ago.

July 25, 1911: Bicycle and Auto Collide: Wm. Dunn, 12 Years of Age, Seriously Injured as Result of Monday's Accident While riding a bicycle on South st. Monday evening, William, 12 years old son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Dunn, 58 Emmett st., was struck by an automobile driven and owned by Frederick H. Hilton of Framingham.  The accident happened near the corner of W. Main and Main streets. He was going acrosss the street, according to eye witnesses, when the collision occurred. 100 Years Ago: Bar and Bottle Law Violated in Marlborough

July 18, 1911: Bar and Bottle Bill Law Being Violated: License Commissioners Said to Admit It, But Desire to Give Dealers a Show Before Taking Action Complaints that the bar and bottle bill law is being violated by Marlboro liquor dealers, have been very numerous. That the law is observed by some and flagrantly violated by others, has been a contention of many for some time.  The license commissioners evidently took notice of the protest Monday evening, when they visited saloons. One of the license commissioners told The Enterprise that the commissioners were dissatisfied with the manner in which the law was observed. Chairman Allen was loathe to say much about the matter. 100 Years Ago: 'This is the Hottest Ever' Says Oldest Resident

Six days a weeks Marlborough Patch will highlight an interesting story from the Marlborough Daily Enterprise published on that date 100 years ago.

July 2 fell on a Sunday in 1911, and the Marlboro Daily Enterprise was not published on Sundays. He is an entry from the following day: July 3, 1911: One Woman is Prostrated: Hottest Ever, 'Tis Said, and Oldest Inhabitant Doesn't Dispute the Fact This is the hottest ever. The oldest inhabitant never saw anything like it. The weather man got busy early in the morning. About 7 o'clock the thermometer at the residence of Thomas F. Williams, Liberty St., was 82, two hours later the thermometer at Barnard's drug store was 90 and at 9:45, 94 was registered. It is good even betting that the 100 mark will be passed before noon.  A Woman was prostrated by the heat near the monument. She is said to have resided in Spencer. A horse fell down near the…
