Field Narrowed to One in High School Principal Search

After the announcement that Marlborough High School principal Debra Roy would retire at the end of the school, a search committee began looking for a new administrator.

The Marlborough Public Schools administration announced Wednesday that they have narrowed their high school principal search to a final candidate. This comes in the wake of current principal Debra Roy's announcement that she would retire at the end of the 2011/12 school year.  After weeks of resume reviews, interviews, and two public meetings, Superintendent Anthony Pope has named Acton’s Raymond J. Grey Junior High Principal Craig Hardimon as Marlborough’s final candidate for the high school principalship next year. On Thursday of this week, Pope, members of his Superintendent’s Cabinet, and members of the High School Principal Interview Committee will do a site visit to Hardimon’s school, and on Friday Hardimon will visit Marlborough …

High School Students Protest Absence of Assistant Principal

Marlborough High School students are asking for answers pertaining to the unexplained absence of Assistant Principal Adam Bakr.

A growing and mysterious controversy at Marlborough High School has come to a head this week: The long-time, unexplained absence of Assistant Principal Adam Bakr. Bakr, an administrator at the school for several years, has been out for almost two months and without any sort of explanation, said students.  There has even been a "Bring Bakr Back" Facebook page created that features messages from students and supporters of the administrator, along with copies of emails and petitions asking the school and city officials to bring Bakr back. There are also several photos of Bakr and even a video of a sit-in that students recently staged demanding answers to the absence. As of this post, nearly 450 people had "Liked" the page. The page's creator …

5 Things You Need to Know Today: Jan. 25

Marlborough Public Schools are looking to end bullying today, and they need your help to ensure the 2012 seniors have a safe prom.

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations. 1. Stroll the halls of any of the Marlborough Public Schools Wednesday, and you’ll probably notice something unusual: Most of the students will be dressed in black. Marlborough Public Schools are participating in the Jan. 25 “No Name Calling Day” activity of wearing black to “black out bullying.” The event is part of a weeklong awareness of, in particular, how name-calling is a form of bullying not to be tolerated and that students should take a stand against such behavior. Marlborough schools are using the entire week to concentrate on eliminating bullying behaviors. …

UPDATE: Schools Resume with Full Bus Service

Thursday is still the projected date for return of service to Marlborough customers.

UPDATE, 10 a.m.: Mayor Nancy Stevens' office tells us that MPS is offering full bus service today, despite ongoing clean-up efforts on city roads. The information originally provided to Patch is said to have been a miscommunication.  _________________ The snow days are over for the time being and the kids will be back in school Wednesday morning.  A full class schedule will be awaiting, but some students may need some help getting there.  "Because a few roads are still in need of debris removal and/or repairs, parents are requested to facilitate getting their children to and from school as needed on Wednesday," said Beth Wagner, a spokesperson for the school system.  The Advanced Math and Science Academy will resume classes as well, and …

MPS, Assabet and the Advanced Math and Science charter announced Sunday that school would be canceled on Monday due to widespread power outages.

The Marlborough Public School system, Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School and the Advanced Math and Science Academy have all anounced that all Monday classes have been canceled due to ongoing power outages that are a result of the Halloween weekend nor'easter. As residents report restored power in select portions of the city, much of the 30,000 customers that originally lost power are still in the dark as of nightfall on Sunday.  Marlborough Patch spoke with a national grid spokesperson Sunday morning who said that crews were working in the city to restore power, and reported Sunday afternoon to at least one city official that neighborhoods were likely to see some service restored by 7 p.m.  As of early evening several …

Of course it's impossible to get ahold of National Grid to ask questions, otherwise they might have to answer the question of how their recent layoff of 1200 workers affected their ability to respond to this outage.... http://www.bostonherald.com/business/general/view.bg?articleid=1313328&srvc=next_article   more ›
