A man who reportedly asked a child to go on a walk with him and his dog was questioned by local police.
Local police have questioned a man who put a number of area sports leagues on alert this week after he talked to children at a sports practice. “If something doesn’t feel right it may not be right. We would rather check it out and have it be nothing,” said Marlborough Police Chief Mark Leonard who spoke with the Hudson Police about the man. “Hudson was satisfied that he was not a threat to the kids that day. "The officer began to converse with Payson and noticed his speech was slurred and slow," said Hudson Sgt. Chad Perry in the police report concerning the Sept. 20 incident. Richard Payson, 35, of 141 Howe Street Apt. 2 had been approached by Hudson Patrolman Michael Vroom in the parking lot of the Hudson Wal-Mart. The officer had been flagged down by a witness who reported that Payson had been "all over the road" while driving down Washington Street before hitting a curb, according to the police report. Payson was in the parking lot changing a tire, …

Looks like the police are dropping the ball here. Just because there's nothing in this guy's background doesn't mean there's no problem here. From what I've heard from reliable sources, this was something more than a guy just walking his dog. Why didn't the police just tail the guy for a bit to see if he did anything else strange before talking to him and tipping him off?   more ›
