Justice for Phantom Takes Another Step

Over 2,500 people have signed a petition asking that the case investigating the death of golden lab Phantom be reopened.

He was a pet. A pet that died alone, locked in a foreclosed apartment. No one has answered for the slow death of Phantom the golden lab and Lyn Gorka and 2,520 people want that to change. "They are demanding I do something with this; that this case gets reopened," said Gorka who is a local real estate agent and animal rights advocate and started an online petition for Phantom. "They are still up in arms. People are writing to me all the time." It comes down to justice for the 2 year-old Phantom that died after being abandoned in a foreclosed apartment. Insufficient evidence was found to charge the owner. Hudson police have said that there was a miscommunication and not enough evidence to prosecute, said Gorka, but that does not change the …

Marlborough Realtor Leads Charge for Justice for Phantom

Lyn Gorka has been "overwhelmed" by the response to an online petition about the case of the Hudson dog left behind when his owners left their foreclosed house.

As a Realtor, Lyn Gorka has seen first hand how pet abandonment is on the rise, with pets left behind in homes that owners leave due to the ongoing foreclosure crisis. For Gorka, the story of Phantom, the Hudson dog found dead in an apartment last year, serves as an example how tragedy could be prevented. The dog was left behind when the apartment's owners left and was locked inside. The pet's body was found after neighbors complained about an odor coming from the vacant apartment. Gorka posted an online petition seeking support for Phantom on Wednesday night. By early Friday, the petition had gathered more than 330 signatures.  "I've been fighting on this for eight months," said Gorka, "Every corner I've turned, nobody wants to hear it. …

5 Things You Need to Know Today: April 20

Marlborough firefighters helped squelch a major incident in Hudson Thursday evening, and we've attached the photo of the young, missing girl from that Rockport beach.

1. The Marlborough Fire Department was busy Thursday afternoon assisting Hudson firefighters cut down several brush blazes near the intersection of 495 North and Route 62. This caused significant havoc with the rush hour traffic (see photo). Was your commute affected? Tell us in the comments.  2. I've attached the photo of Caleigh Anne Harrison to today's column in the off-chance that anyone has seen her locally. She is the toddler that went missing from a Rockport, MA beach Thursday. As of this post, she had not been located though a significant effort is being made to locate her, both in law enforcement and in the media. She is 2 years, 9 months old. She has light brown hair and blue-gray eyes. She was last seen wearing a light pink T-…

The Marlborough Fire Department is assisting Hudson as they cut down brush fires in the vicinity of 495 north and Route 62.

The Marlborough Fire Department is assisting Hudson fire crews as they cut down brush fires in the vicinity of 495 north and Route 62. Traffic appears to be backed up for several miles at this point, affecting Marlborough traffic and cars on 290 as well. Inside the city limits of Marlborough, traffic is flowing freely for those headed south, but backed up for miles in the northbound lane.  Eyewitnesses have said that the highway resembles a "parking lot." Marlborough firefighters have responded to multiple brush fires this week amidst repeated warnings from the National Weather Service concerning the dry conditions.  The attached map is a live view of the traffic conditions.  Follow us on Facebook and Twitter to keep up to date on the …

Traffic Stopped as Crews Battle Brush Fires on 290 East

The Mass State Police are recommending drivers take an alternate route home this evening.

There is a significant traffic back-up due to several brush fires along Route 290 east in the Northborough and Marlborough area, said the Massachusetts State Police. At 5:10 p.m., troopers closed several ramps along 290 east, however, those ramps were reopened at 5:40 p.m. A curiosity factor has also caused significant delays on the westbound side as well. State police suggest motorists seek alternate routes until emergency crews clear the scene.
