Our former mayor has taken a new job with the state of Massachusetts, and teachers and students have teamed up to paint "The Rock" in honor of Adam Bakr.

1. Students are still passionately advocating for the return of assistant principal Adam Bakr to Marlborough High School. Even some teachers have taken to the cause, and reportedly helped students paint "The Rock" on Rt. 85 near the Hudson line. What do you think about this situation? Could all this attention help the prospects of Bakr returning to school?  2. Former mayor Nancy Stevens has taken a job with the state of Massachusetts. A local church is holding a free film series, and there is a pasta dinner at the Jaworek School tonight!

The First Church in Marlborough Congregational is holding a free movie series hosted by Pastor Kazimierz “Kaz” Bem. All movies will be shown at 5:30 p.m. at the church. High School Students Protest Absence of Assistant Principal

Marlborough High School students are asking for answers pertaining to the unexplained absence of Assistant Principal Adam Bakr.

A growing and mysterious controversy at Marlborough High School has come to a head this week: The long-time, unexplained absence of Assistant Principal Adam Bakr. Bakr, an administrator at the school for several years, has been out for almost two months and without any sort of explanation, said students.  There has even been a "Bring Bakr Back" Facebook page created that features messages from students and supporters of the administrator, along with copies of emails and petitions asking the school and city officials to bring Bakr back. There are also several photos of Bakr and even a video of a sit-in that students recently staged demanding answers to the absence. As of this post, nearly 450 people had "Liked" the page. Mr. Bakr would have been very proud of the MHS students last night at the School Committee meeting with three students speaking so eloquently before the Committee, Superintendent, Mayor, peers, community members, faculty and staff in attendance. Athlete of the Week: Evan Merk

This Marlborough High School senior has more than 100 match wins under his belt.

Name: Evan Merk Graduating Class: 2012 Team: Marlborough Varsity Wrestling  Merk started wrestling in third grade, then stopped around sixth grade to pursue winter sports such as skiing. He returned to wrestling in the folk style used by most high schools in the eighth grade. When asked what he loved most about the sport, he was clear. "I guess it would be the fact that it is an individual sport, but you have the support of a team behind you as well. When you go out there it's just you, but you have the whole team around you, and they support you and you can support them." Stats: He is currently wrestling in the 145 pound weight class and is 24 and 2 this year. Merk earned his 102 win this past Wednesday. What's next: Merk has been …

Marlborough High to Host FAFSA Day in Late January

The Marlborough School District offered information about the upcoming event in a recent press release.

Marlborough High School will host a FAFSA Day for all college-bound students and their families Thursday, Jan. 26. beginning at 6:30 p.m. The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is the federally required form for all students seeking financial aid including grants, loans and Federal Work-Study assistance. All graduating and adult students entering college for the 2012-13 school year must file a FAFSA prior to being considered for any financial assistance. Additionally, some states and colleges also use FAFSA information to award their own funds. Each college and university has its own deadline for filing the FAFSA, however MHS guidance counselors recommend filing by early February so students do not miss out on any financial …
