3 Local Holiday Gifts for Mom

Buying for mom can be hard and you are running out of time, but here are some local gift ideas for her this holiday season.

1. The Boston Post Road Art Center has an array of interesting and unique gifts, along with a strong selection art supplies and frames. See some examples here.  2. Get mom a gift certificate to a local hair salon and spa. Drumais, for example, in the downtown area offers a variety of services. Check out our photo gallery here.  3. A lot of moms could probably use some time to themselves and a chance to relax. What better way to relax than with a nice glass of wine. There are several fine package stores in Marlborough with a great wine selection including Marlborough Wine and Spirits and the Vin Bin on Main Street.  Follow us on Facebook and Twitter to keep up to date on the latest Marlborough news, or simply hit the "like" button at the …

POLL: Worst Gift Ever

That terrible gift you received has a purpose after all: you can share it with Patch.

At Marlborough Patch, we know there are some people who don't quite get gift-giving. Sometimes those terrible gifts are so bad you need to throw them away; other times, it's better to share the love and re-gift them. In my family, we've done a Yankee Swap for the past 10 years or so and every year there is one gift you don't want to open: the banana hanger. You read that right: a banana hanger—as in, something you use to keep your bananas off the kitchen counter. (Really, grandma?) We're sure you have a gift that you couldnt believe you've received. We want to know what it was. Take the poll and tell us about it in the comments. (And, maybe you'll even get some ideas for this year's Yankee Swap.) Follow us on Facebook and Twitter to keep …

An emergency flashlight/radio/strobelight. You had to crank it and crank it and crank it for about one minute of power. Ended up having a heart attack and used my cell phone to call...... Just kidding about the heart attack! Merry Christmas!   more ›

VIDEO: Santa Answers Oft Asked Questions, Gives Marlborough ETA

Marlborough Patch sat down with Santa Claus recently to get the answers to some often wondered questions.

Santa Claus took some time out of his busy schedule at the Solomon Pond Mall to talk shop with Marlborough Patch. Dozens, if not hundreds, of young ones ask for a variety of gifts each day, and Old Saint Nick talked about some of those requests while reminding everyone to stay on the "nice" list.  What would you ask Santa for this year? Tell us in the comments.  You can visit santa with the kids through the rest of the week on the first floor of the Solomon Pond Mall.  Follow us on Facebook and Twitter to keep up to date on the latest Marlborough news, or simply hit the "like" button at the top of this page.

Marlborough Super Announces Gift Giving Guidelines for Classrooms

The public school system is subject to Massachusetts conflict of interest laws in relation to teachers accepting gifts in the classroom.

The office of Marlborough's superintendent of schools Dr. Anthony Pope issued a statement Monday offering state guidelines in relationship to giving teachers gifts.  Dear Members of the Marlborough Community, This past year the State Ethics Commission approved amendments to the regulations under the state’s conflicts of interest law. It is important to let you know about these amendments and how they affect gift-giving to school staff members. Teachers and other school members are subject to the laws and regulations regarding conflict of interest and state ethics. Since the statute and Ethics Committee regulations are now in effect and are being enforced, we want to make sure we are fully complying with the rules. These conflict of …

United Way to Support Marlborough's Holiday Helper Program

Parents must register for gifts by Friday, Nov. 18.

The city of Marlborough and the United Way of Tri-County announced earlier this week that the Holiday Helper program will go on helping Marlborough families this holiday season, despite the city being unable to coordinate the program due to budget concerns.  As such, the program will continue under the auspices of the United Way's Metrowest program Hope for the Holidays. Both programs focus on supplying gifts, clothing and food for thousands of children and families in the immediate area.  “The City of Marlborough has put so much love and care into the program in years past, but we had to be mindful of the added strain to city resources and staff time," said Mayor Nancy Stevens. "We are so happy that the program will continue in a new way …
