Gov. Patrick plans to name Gerry Leone's permanent successor next week.
Gov. Deval Patrick has named First Assistant District Attorney Michael Pelgro as the acting Middlesex County District Attorney to replace Gerry Leone. Patrick, who made the announcement in a statement on Friday, April 12, plans to announce a permanent appointment to fill out Leone's term next week, according to the Lowell Sun. Voters will elect a new DA in the biennial election in 2014. In January, Leone announced he would not seek a third term. In March, Leone announced he would join a private law firm. The conviction of a man from Marlborough for a 2004 murder has been upheld in supreme court.
The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court affirmed the conviction of Dwayne Taylor, who in serving a life sentence for the 2004 murder of David Fleet, and declined to order a new trial or reduce the murder conviction to a lesser degree of guilt. The court upheld Dwayne Taylor's first degree murder conviction stemming from a 2004 shooting when they denied all four issues he raised on appeal yesterday. Submitted by District Attorney Gerry Leone's office: In an effort to aid violence and drug prevention efforts of youth organizations in Middlesex County and provide youth with positive alternatives to crime, Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone has donated over $100,000 of drug forfeiture funds to eleven community programs, marking the second year of what had become an annual initiative for the District Attorney. Through a newly established partnership between the MDAO, Partnerships for a Skilled Workforce, Inc., and the city of Marlborough, the MDAO’s nearly $10,000 donation will help to support 20 paid internships for youth in Marlborough for six weeks this summer, along with a job training program. “These funds will make a …

Fostering healthy relationships offline and online was the focus of a day long conference held today for school officials and law enforcement personnel hosted by the Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone’s Office and the Middlesex Partnership for Youth, Inc. More than 300 local school officials, social workers and law enforcement personnel attended SECURE XIV, an annual conference to address issues of health and safety for teens.
