Justice for Phantom Takes Another Step

Over 2,500 people have signed a petition asking that the case investigating the death of golden lab Phantom be reopened.

He was a pet. A pet that died alone, locked in a foreclosed apartment. No one has answered for the slow death of Phantom the golden lab and Lyn Gorka and 2,520 people want that to change. "They are demanding I do something with this; that this case gets reopened," said Gorka who is a local real estate agent and animal rights advocate and started an online petition for Phantom. "They are still up in arms. People are writing to me all the time." It comes down to justice for the 2 year-old Phantom that died after being abandoned in a foreclosed apartment. Insufficient evidence was found to charge the owner. Hudson police have said that there was a miscommunication and not enough evidence to prosecute, said Gorka, but that does not change the …

Justice for Phantom in Final Stretch

Justice for a two-year old lab that was abandoned and died last year gets closer as online petition heats up.

Justice for 2 year-old lab Phantom that died after being abandoned in a foreclosed apartment gets ever closer as a petition to have the dog's former owner prosecuted closes in on 2,500 signatures. “Everyone wants justice for this dog and they are depending upon me to do it,” said Marlborough Realtor Lyn Gorka who established an online petition after 8 months of working through other avenues. Gorka began that petition in July and has received over 2,300 signatures towards having the case prosecuted. Abandoned animals in foreclosed properties — such as Phantom who was found in a Hudson apartment — are on the rise, said Gorka. An example needs to be made of this owner, she said. Marlborough Realtor Leads Charge for Justice for Phantom

Lyn Gorka has been "overwhelmed" by the response to an online petition about the case of the Hudson dog left behind when his owners left their foreclosed house.

As a Realtor, Lyn Gorka has seen first hand how pet abandonment is on the rise, with pets left behind in homes that owners leave due to the ongoing foreclosure crisis. For Gorka, the story of Phantom, the Hudson dog found dead in an apartment last year, serves as an example how tragedy could be prevented. The dog was left behind when the apartment's owners left and was locked inside. The pet's body was found after neighbors complained about an odor coming from the vacant apartment. Gorka posted an online petition seeking support for Phantom on Wednesday night. By early Friday, the petition had gathered more than 330 signatures.  "I've been fighting on this for eight months," said Gorka, "Every corner I've turned, nobody wants to hear it. …
