Shortly before 11:30 a.m., Monday, Chief James Fortin of the Marlborough Fire Department ordered all firefighters to evacuate 271 West Main St., where they had been battling a six alarm fire since mid-morning. The fire that broke out on one of the top floors of the 40 (approximately) unit Lake Williams Condominiums, caused the building to become unsafe for firefighters. Crews remained on top of the situation, however, from outside the facility, with tower trucks from several area towns raining water down onto the blaze. Shortly after 10 a.m., the roof began to collapse giving crews an exposed view of the fire, allowing them to cut it down more effectively. Residents of the building watched from the sidewalk across the street, and did not…

A red flag warning has been issued for the area because of the potential for fire is extremely high.
A red flag warning was issued for much of central Massachusetts, including Marlborough on Monday. According to the National Weather Service, this "very warm and generally dry airmass promotes an elevated fire risk today." With dry conditions and gusty winds around 25 miles per hour, this warning has been issued for the Central Middlesex area through 8 p.m., Monday. "Everything is drying out, Deputy Chief Stanley Clement of the Marlborough Fire Department told Patch recently. "When the materials are dryer everything ignites easier. You'll see these types of conditions advertised until we get some wet weather." Temperatures ranging from the upper 80s to the low 90s and the lowest humidity was anticipated to occur for Marathon Monday, said …

The National Weather Service in Taunton has issued a red flag fire warning for Marlborough and most of Middlesex County. The warning is in effect through 8 p.m., Friday. "Above normal temperatures, very low relative humidity and winds gusting between 25 and 30 miles per hour and little to no rain over the last two weeks will result in critical fire weather conditions this afternoon," said a release. Residents are advised to be very careful when disposing of ignited materials such as cigarettes, as any spark could get quickly out of control. "Everything is drying out, said acting fire chief Stanley Clement of the Marlborough Fire Department. "When the materials are dryer everything ignites easier. You'll see these types of conditions …

Marlborough firefighters responded to Marlborough Hospital shortly after 6 a.m. Wednesday when an ethylene oxide alarm sounded in the hospital’s laboratory/central sterile supply area, said officials. Multiple fire department assets responded to the initial alarm and found that a security guard had entered the area in an attempt to reset the alarm. He was taken to the emergency room to be checked out for lowered oxygen levels and elevated carbon monoxide levels in his bloodstream. He was treated and released. No other injuries were reported. Police and fire officials cordoned off and evacuated a portion of the hospital due to the hazardous nature of the gas leaked. "Ethylene oxide (EtO) is a flammable, colorless gas at temperatures …

A fire broke out at 181 Broad St. Monday morning.
The Marlborough Fire Department is investigating an early morning fire that neighbors said displaced a dozen residents at 181 Broad St. Scanner transmissions reported heavy fire in the multi-family home just after 6:30 a.m. Monday. Three families reportedly lived there; no injuries were reported. According to resident Magaly Fernandez, who lives in the second floor apartment with her husband and three children, the fire broke out on the third floor, the result of a space heater. "I was up and my husband had just left for work," said Fernandez, who stood on the street in her pajamas, "and I heard the smoke detector. I walked out and that is when everyone came down screaming. They have kids, too." Fernandez said the third floor fire reached …

Every city and town in the Commonwealth has a wish list each year of the projects that need finishing and unrealized plans that will improve quality of life. Marlborough is no different, with many projects in the works and others coming up the pipeline. 1. New Senior Center. This project has been in the works for some time now, but in recent months we've seen options explored for a a new facility, and details discussed at City Hall and in the media. 2. Additional resources for the Fire Department. Many believe that residents and property alike have been put at risk this year when budget shortfalls necessitated the closure of one of the city's fire stations. The mayor-elect has said addressing this problem will a priority in his new …

Shortly after 9 p.m. Friday evening, the Marlborough Fire Department responded to a 911 emergency call pertaining to a structure fire on Turner Ridge Road, close to the Sudbury line. Scanner traffic reported that heavy fire was showing from the second floor above a garage attached to a home on the lower portion of the street. As of that time, scanner reports indicated that fire crews were making "good progress" on the scene. Shortly after 11 p.m. there were no emergency crews or fire apparatus on scene, and there were no easily visible signs that there had been a fire, save some running water at the base of the driveway. The deputy fire chief on duty was unavailable to comment as of this post. Marlborough Patch will update this story …
