Northborough Man Struck on 290 Expected to Survive

A man hit on Monday morning by a tractor trailer on I-290 is expected to survive.

A man struck by a tractor trailer Monday morning on I-290 in Northborough, near the Marlborough line, is expected to survive, according to Massachusetts State Police. At 9:05 a.m., troopers from the state police barracks in Holden responded to several 911 calls for a pedestrian who was struck by a tractor trailer on Route 290 westbound in Northborough. A 42-year-old man from Northborough had pulled his 2000 Honda Civic over into the breakdown lane. The male, for reasons yet to be determined, walked out into the travel lane and was subsequently struck by a tractor trailer unit, said police. The man was transported to UMass Medical Center where he is being treated for his injuries and is expected to survive. The cause of the crash, as well …

10:20 a.m. Massachusetts State Police, responding to the crash westbound on I-290 in Northborough (near the Marlborough line) said it has limited information at this time and no information on the condition of the pedestrian or the truck driver. The right and middle lanes are currently closed and expected to be for some time. Seek an alternate route if possible. 9:30 a.m.: A pedestrian was struck on I-290 west at the Marlborough line, according to a breaking news alert received by Patch. The operator of the vehicle is outside of a car hit by a tractor trailor truck. A reconstruction team has been requested. Help Sought in Wake of LifeFlight Car Accident

The October Parmenter Street car accident that resulted in a victim — who has since been in a coma — being life flighted has pushed a family friend to action.

It was an accident that sent three to the hospital, with Mike Mashkevich making the trip by helicopter to UMass Worcester where he is in a coma recovering. “He is making progress to getting better but he has so many broken bones," said Jessie Seiders who described Mike as her best friend and who has started a fundraising effort to help the family. "He just started opening his eyes.” Mike was sitting in the front passenger seat and took the brunt of the accident, she said. The driver and rear seat passenger — who fractured his legs — have been released from the hospital, said Seiders. Mike is 24 and living in Marlborough. State Police Reconstructing LifeFlight Accident

The State Police Accident Reconstruction Team is working to figure out what led to the accident that led to one person being life flighted last Thursday.

The Massachusetts State Police Accident Reconstruction Team is hard at work to figure out what happened leading up to the crash of a car with three people in it last Thursday. "They’ll measure skid marks... and take photographs,” said Marlborough Det. Scott DeCiero of the Community Services Bureau. “We can get a pretty good feel as to what happened.” The State Police are called in on serious investigations, he said, and it can take some time to complete their work. (UPDATE) Medical Helicopter Transport After Crash

Two passengers were extricated and one person was life flighted.

Update: One person was life flighted to UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester following a single-car accident on Parmenter Street last night. “It appeared they had gone off the road, it is a windy road, they had gone off the road and struck a tree,” said Fire Chief Jim Fortin of the accident that occured between Broadmeadow Street and the Primate Center. Fire officials responded to the accident at 9:30 p.m. There were two passengers trapped in the vehicle, said Deputy Fire Chief Stanley Clement. “The male driver exited the vehicle," he said. The front and rear passengers had multiple traumas, said Deputy Chief Clement. It took the fire department 30 minutes to cut into the vehicle and free the passengers, said Chief Fortin. 495 North Ramp Closed from 290 Eastbound

A crashed car carrier has closed the 495 North onramp from Route 290 East Bound.

The Massachusett Department of Transportation is reporting that the 495 North entrance from 290 East has been blocked. The block has closed the ramp to 495 North at exit 26 A/B after a car carrier rolled over. The Marlborough Fire Department was called to the scene. There were no injuries reported, but they were called in to deal with a small fuel spill, said fire officials. Marlborough Deputy Fire Chief Fred Flynn said during a closure of 495 North in August that tractor trailer accidents on this ramp happen at least once or twice a year. I guess it's all in your perspective. I used to look forward to that ramp when I commuted to Manchester. It was the only piece of actually curvy road until I hit New Hampshire. That said, it is a complete hazard.   more ›

UPDATED: Police Seek Driver in Crash that Cut Power to 200 Homes

It may be late Friday before all homes in the Pleasant St. area have power restored.

UPDATE Friday, 1:03 p.m.: A section of Pleasant St. remains closed to traffic as utility crews continue to repair the damage from the accident.  A neighbor who heard the crash said the female driver of the car was picked up by the driver of a truck who first asked if she was OK. As neighbors attempted to warn drivers, at least one car passed through the downed but live wires, the witness said.  *** Police are searching for the driver of a car that struck a utility pole on Pleasant St. early Friday morning, leaving 200 homes in the dark. Marlborough Man Identified as Driver in Fatal Crash

Reginaldo Nascimento was driving the Mercedes that struck and killed Robert Weitzler of Framingham last week.

Police have identified the driver of the Mercedes that struck Robert Weitzler Friday on Edmands Road. Reginaldo Nascimento, 33, of Marlborough has not been cited or charged in connection with the fatal crash. The investigation is still ongoing. Weitzler died Saturday from injuries sustained in the crash. He was struck while picking up his mail and was thrown 20 feet. Weitzler worked in his family owned and operated business The Fabric Place before retiring to become a stay at home father to raise his  son, Owen, 5; from his second marriage.
