May the dollars you save be plentiful with the deals that I found in Marlborough this week.
1. Consign My Closet: The first Consign My Closet children’s resale event of the season will take place on March 16 through 18 at 739 Donald Lynch Blvd, or the former Borders bookstore. At Consign My Closet you will find thousands of gently used children’s clothing and equipment items from great brands such as Gymboree, Catamini, Hanna Andersson, Peg Perego, and more. Most children outgrow the premium children’s brands before they get a chance to wear them out, so there should be some great buys. By purchasing consignment items, you can reduce the impact to your pocketbook as well as to the environment. Visit the Consign My Closet website for event details and hours. 2. Make your own corned beef dinner with ingredients from Hannaford …

Many Massachusetts art museums offer free admission at the beginning of the month. Find out how you and your family can receive free admission to the deCordova Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts, the Worcester Art Museum and more in this week’s Frugal Family
Have you taken your kids to an art museum recently? They might be skeptical, but see what happens when you arrive at the museum. My children took out their pencils and paper and the magic began. We've stopped on stairways to draw large ceramic vases, copied ancient designs and hieroglyphs, and sketched a three-dimensional cube seen in a modern painting. It’s a wonderful thing when your children are inspired. Here are a few museums around Massachusetts to visit that have free or discounted admission so your outing won’t break the bank. Some of the museum admissions can be covered by museum passes that you can borrow from the Marlborough Public Library. Talk with your kids about the visit before you go. Discuss the plan for the day, the …

Marlborough families have many grocery shopping choices and many opportunities to save money. Within the past year a new supermarket chain has opened a store in our area and our local big box stores have now started offering fresh groceries. The drug stores also sell grocery items. With all this abundance comes the need to shop very carefully and understand prices. On Monday I took a ride to the larger stores near my home to find out what the prices are this week for the breakfast staples that my family enjoys. The stores I visited were Hannaford, Target and Price Chopper in Marlborough and Walmart in Hudson. Below are my findings. I realize that not everyone would choose to buy these items, especially if you have a food allergy or a …

Save on Patriots logo shirts, a new look for you, and a new closet or home office.
1. Patriots shirt deal: Cheering “GO PATS” is much more effective if you are wearing a Patriots shirt. But at around $85, the number “12” adult jersey is out of reach for many. I found some affordable Patriots shirts at Ocean State Job Lot. There are hefty hooded sweatshirts for $20, long sleeve t-shirts for $10, and I picked up two short-sleeve t-shirts for $7 each. There are no player names or championship years on these shirts so you can wear them year after year. There are lots of big sizes, so if you are lucky enough to get a ticket for Sunday’s game, you can wear a shirt over your coat. See their weekly flyer for these and more deals. Ocean State Job Lot is located at 230A East Main St. 2. Spark up your look for less at Charming …

The holidays have passed and Marlborough families are taking back their homes by putting away decorations, cleaning closets, and getting organized. Think twice before you pack things away and store them in the basement. If you haven’t used something in a year, you probably won’t use it again. Get it into the hands of someone who can use it. 1. Donate items to the Marlborough Community Cupboard: Carol Phipps, manager of the Marlborough Community Cupboard, would be pleased to receive your donations of children's and adult clothing, baby equipment, games and toys, paperback books, videos, small household items (no large equipment or furniture please) as well as non-perishable food items. The Marlborough Community Cupboard (formally known as …
