Heavy snow will start in Marlborough around 2 p.m. as the levels continue to be up in the air although we are guaranteed at least a foot of snow with likely power outages.
Tonight's commute is set to be a slow slog with steady snow beginning at 2 p.m. and continuing until Saturday around 10 a.m., according to Channel 7 meteorologists. "Travel isn't recommended Friday evening or Friday night," writes WHDH Meteorologist Jeremy Reiner on the Channel 7 Weather Blog. Drawing comparisons to storms in 2005 and 2003 (22.5 inches and 27.5 inches in the Boston area), WHDH meteorologist Pete Bouchard blogged that this could be "the biggest snowstorm in almost a decade." Marlborough is under a blizzard watch beginning Friday with conditions set to worsen throughout the day.
Weather officials and services are calling this storm many things, from epic to historic, even as the predicted snow totals continue to vary greatly. The National Weather Service describes the storm as historic in a weather advisory for Friday and Saturday. A blizzard watch will be in effect beginning Friday morning and extending into Saturday afternoon. The worst of the storm will be Friday night into Wednesday morning, according to the advisory. The storm is being described as "epic" by WHDH Chief Meteorologist Pete Bouchard in the Channel 7 Weather Blog. The snow that will roll through New England Tuesday will avoid accumulating throughout much of Massachusetts.
The only "storm" this week is forecast to mostly miss Marlborough, or at least bring no accumulation when it rolls through tomorrow. The storm will bring overcast skies and snow along and below the Mass Pike line, according to Jeremy Reiner on the WHDH Channel 7 Weather Blog. This will be the only "storm" of the week, said Reiner, and take place midday into the late afternoon. Wednesday will see the sun return, he said, but not high temperatures.
