Attempted Murder, a Car Chase and Intense Fires

From fires to attempted murder and a chase through the city following a burglary; it was a busy week for emergency personnel.

It was a busy week all around for police and fire personnel as flames claimed buildings and cars while an attempted murder and car chase prompted police response. A man was charged with attempted murder after allegedly strangling and otherwise attempting to suffocate a woman on Friday, Nov. 2. On Saturday, a passing police cruiser spotted a man running out of a convinience store. He followed the vehicle the man got into, prompting a chase through the city. The man has been charged with armed robbery and police report a knife was found on the passenger seat of the jeep he was driving. Marlborough Car Fire Totals Two Vehicles

A car fire totaled two vehicles and damaged a third Monday.

Fire fighters responded to an early morning report of a car fire on Monday. At 1:25 a.m., fire fighters were dispatched to a reported outside fire at the Meadows at Marlborough apartment complex on Broadmeadow Road. The crew of Engine 3 reported two cars fully engulfed with fire extending to a third vehicle. Additional assistance was called to the scene due to the size of the fire and potential to spread to other vehicles besides those already involved, according to a release from the fire department. Engine 1, Ladder 2 and Rescue 1 responded to the scene. A 2000 Oldsmobile Silhouette minivan and a 2005 Toyota Highlander SUV were destroyed in the fire. The third vehicle involved, a 2001 Chevrolet Corvette convertible suffered some damage. …

The Marlborough Fire Department responded to a significant fire during the Friday Commute.

A significant car fire slowed down highway traffic in Marlborough Friday evening. Around 6 p.m., The Marlborough Fire Department responded to the northbound lane of 495, according to one motorist. UPDATED: Vehicle Fire at 290/495 Junction a Total Loss

The Marlborough Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire at the junction of Rt. 290 East and 495 in Marlborough early Wednesday afternoon.

A "fully-engulfed" vehicle fire stopped traffic for a short time on I-290 East early Wednesday afternoon.  A traffic alert was issued for vehicles traveling in Marlborough in the vicinity of I-290 eastbound at Exit 26 (I-495).  Police scanner traffic reported a fully-engulfed vehicle fire in that area, and Deputy Chief James Diamond of the Marlborough Fire Department confirmed the early reports. "The driver was headed down the highway when he was some smoke and fire under the dash," said Diamond. "The driver pulled over and called 911. When Engine 2 arrived on the scene the vehicle was fully involved." Diamond was not aware of the car's make and model due to the condition of the vehicle after the fire.
