$5k Grant for MetroWest Boys & Girls Clubs

BJ's Charitable Foundation officials announced Tuesday they would give $5,000 in a grant to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro West.

The Westborough-based BJ's Charitable Foundation has donated $356,500 among 57 Massachusetts nonprofits, the organization announced Tuesday.     The grant recipients' focuses include "hunger prevention, self sufficiency, healthcare and education," the foundation said in a press release. The Westborough-area organizations receiving grants were:

IMAGE GALLERY: Thanksgiving Turkeys Given to Those in Need

Volunteers gathered to hand turkeys out to Marlborough residents who are in need this Thanksgiving.

More than 550 turkeys were given to Marlborough residents at the town's Boys and Girls club on Tuesday who needed a little help putting food on the table this Thanksgiving.  "Not everyone can go home and have a family meal enjoy those blessings," Paul Mina, the President and CPO of the Tri-County United Way said.  Volunteers also handed out turkey breasts which Mina said can feed a family in need for several days.  "Thanksgiving brings top-of-mind awareness to the problem," Mina said.

Boys and Girls Club Offers 'Money Matters' Program to local Preteens

Students get an education outside the classroom at the local nonprofit.

Each Wednesday, 11 preteens dive into Money Matters; an after school program offered by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metrowest. The Money Matters program teaches financial responsibility and independence among Club members in grades 6 and up. Participants learn how to manage a checking account, create a budget, save and invest, start a small business and pay for college. Boys and Girls Club Raises $157,000 at Gala

Marlborough Businesses and resident were honored as key partners in the effort.

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Metrowest recently announced the success of their annual fundraising event, the 2011 Bids for Kids Auction and Gala. The event, held Oct. 27 in Framingham and hosted by Susan Wornick of WCVB Channel 5, raised $157,000 for the nonprofit organization.  Approximately 380 guests, sponsors and honorees were in attendance for the event, which featured an large silent auction and raffle. The gift will help enhance existing program at the Marlborough club.

Panera Bread in Marlborough presented a check for $2,660 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of MetroWest on Monday. 1. The National Weather Service says we are finally going to have some decent weather today. Expect sunny skies, and a high in the mid to upper 50s.  2. American Profit Recovery, a collection agency based in Marlborough, will celebrate Earth Day this year by heading over to the Boys and Girls Club of Metrowest on Pleasant St. on Friday. Employees and others will clean up the playground area of this organization. VIDEO: Volunteers Create Care Kits for Victims of Domestic Violence

Volunteers from the Leadership Metrowest and the Boys and Girls Clubs of MetroWest gathered at the Middlesex Savings Bank in Framingham to assemble these kits.

Members of Leadership MetroWest, a yearlong program, and students from the Boys and Girls Clubs of MetroWest including Marlborough, have joined together and assembled 120 "care kits" for victims of domestic violence or those who are temporarily displaced. These kits will be distributed to 5 area emergency rooms and police departments in the 10 MetroWest towns covered by the MetroWest Chamber of Commerce (Ashland, Framingham, Holliston, Hopkinton, Natick, Sherborn, Southborough, Sudbury, Wayland, and Westborough).
