Zoning Changes Encouraging Campus Style Developments Endorsed

Three zoning changes that would encourage easier development of campus style business parks may make more work for city officials.

Zoning changes could create more work for city officials as they encourage a more campus like setting for business developments. "My job is is to make sure the city’s concerns are still addressed too," Building Commissioner Michael Mendoza said of agreements that would allow a joint parking lot to be used by multiple buildings in a business park. “There is going to be a lot of tweaking on these written agreements I see coming. A change that would allow for parking to be centralized was one of three zoning amendments designed to encourage campus style development in business parks that were endorsed by the Urban Affairs Committee Monday night. The zoning changes were put forward by representatives from Boston Scientific, which plans to …

Economic Secretary Supports Apartments and Mixed Use in Marlborough

State Housing and Economic Development Secretary Gregory Bialecki says apartments and mixed use developments are crucial in attracting companies to Massachusetts.

As Marlborough continues to draw in large companies, apartment buildings and mixed use developments will be crucial in attracting both the companies and the talent that spurs them to come to Massachusetts, according to the State's Housing and Economic Development Secretary Bialecki. “There’s not enough of the kind of housing the talent wants, particularly the young talent," he said. “It starts with housing, no question." Bringing developers to the state is two fold, said Bialecki. You must tend to the traditional approach of a reasonable tax structure, proper infrastructure and reasonable permitting is in place, he said. Nice 'capture' for the City, now maybe they should really examine building a new fire station on the West side of RTE 495. These plans take time to come to fruition, and that gives our Civic Leader's time to work out the details. Unless they are planning on requiring sprinklers in all new housing, the risk to thousand's of people on that side of the City is growing along with these proposals.   more ›

Mayor’s ‘Heat and Eat’ Toll Heralded as Great Success

Residents dig deep to help local families in need.

Mayor Nancy Stevens' office, in partnership with the Marlborough Human Services Department, held a voluntary “Heat and Eat” toll road collection in support of the Mayor’s Charity Relief Fund on November 14 and 21. Toll collection days were well received, bringing in a grand total of $2,538.97.  Donations came in all denominations. For many who only had pocket change to offer, the ability to help in any way was rewarding. Those who gave did so with enthusiasm. By the end of the collection days, over $500 was counted in coins! The Mayor took to the pavement and joined the efforts. While collecting, she was approached by a woman who handed her what she said was her “gas money.” As it turns out, she had donated a generous $80.  “While I have …
