UPDATED: Fire Blamed on 'Exploding Fan' in 911 Call [VIDEO]

A fire has gutted a home in the Cider Hill Condominiums just off Route 20 across from Wildwood Steakhouse. The Marlborough Fire Department is investigating the cause.

UPDATE 8 p.m. — Marlborough firefighters knocked down a large blaze mid-afternoon Tuesday after a 911 call from unit 7 of 168 Boston Post Rd. E. reported a "fan explosion." Multiple engines responded to the alarm, and arrived to find nothing showing. As firefighters exited their truck, however, the glass in one of the windows of the apartment shattered expelling heavy smoke and fire, said Deputy Chief Ron Ayotte.  Additional engines were dispatched to the scene, and the MFD recalled off-duty personnel. Acting Chief Stanley Clement took command of the scene at that time, said a release. "The fire was knocked down within 15 minutes, the area was overhauled (ceilings and walls in the fire areas opened up) to ensure that the fire was out," …
