Former Marlborough Supterintendent Anthony Pope is in the running for another superintendent position in Massachusetts. Pope is one of three finalists in the Wareham School District's search for a superintendent. The other two finalists are Kimberly Shaver-Hood, who serves as the superintendent of the Blackstone-Millville Regional School District in Blackstone and Elise Frangos, who currently is the assistant superintendent of curriculum for the Old Rochester Regional School District, in Mattapoisett. A Westborough native is among the three finalists for the full-time superintendent position in the Marlborough School District. "Between the three of them they have 19 years as experience as superintendents," said School Committee Member Jennifer Hardy of the three final candidates picked to replace former Superintendent Anthony Pope. With the search for a superintendent set to kick off, the city could be looking at a bill of over $20,000. Three firms are vying for the contract to find a full-time superintendent for the district following Anthony Pope's resignation. The school committee met to hear proposals from all three Tuesday. The School Committee was told Tuesday night that the search for a permanent superintendent needs to begin as soon as possible.
A consultant told the School Committee that the search for a full-time superintendent should have begun at the beginning of the fall. “If we are going to get the prime candidates, now is the time to do that,” said Senior Consultant William Garr of Future Management Systems, Inc. The committee heard from three different consultant companies Tuesday night as they begin the search for a full-time replacement for former Superintendent Anthony Pope. The search for a full-time superintendent has begun.
The search for a permanent superintendent for Marlborough is set to kick off tonight as the School Committee reviews three companies who are vying for a contract to help the district find a candidate. The equation is simple, said Interim Superintendent Steven Dlott, and it includes more superintendent positions than there are individuals looking for the position. The solution he gave to the school committee was to begin their search as soon as possible. Dlott said at last week's committee meeting that a vote could occur for the committee as soon as tonight if they feel they have enough information. The Marlborough School Committee Thursday voted to pursue former Westborough superintendent Steve Dlott to serve as interim schools leader. Dlott, who has also served as interim superintendent in Hudson, was recommended by two committee members who reviewed resumes along with Mayor Arthur Vigeant. The vote was unanimous among those present--member Margaret Dwyer was not at the meeeting Thursday called solely for the purpose of advancing the seach for someone to replace Anthony Pope, who resigned on July 2. The School Committee hopes to select an interim superintendent by the end of next week.
With promising candidates being scooped up by other communities almost daily, the School Committee set out an aggressive timeline to hire an interim superintendent. Mayor Arthur Vigeant said his office will accept resumes and expressions of interest in the position through Monday of next week and then prvoide school committee members Katherine Hennssy and Michelle Bodin-Hettinger a list of interested candidates. The day after the School Committee accepted his resignation, outgoing Superintendent Anthony Pope said he was proud of the "many great things" accomplished during his tenure. Mayor Arthur Vigeant announced the resignation at the beginning of Tuesday night's School Committee meeting. "The parties came to a mutual agreement on the terms, which will be released once they are finalized," Vigeant said. The resignation is effective July 2.
