The 15-year-olds will be charged in Worcester Juvenile Court.
Two 15-year-olds have been charged with malicious destruction of property in connection with the March 17 vandalism that included spray painting graffiti on Westborough High School and several buildings at Bay State Commons. “The damage is well over $1,000,” said Westborough Police Chief Alan Gordon. “That number was just for the high school, but there is a lot of damage at Bay State as well.” The teens include a student from the Advanced Math and Science Academy in Marlborough and a Westborough High School freshman. They will be charged in Worcester Juvenile Court with malicious destruction of property and possibly tagging, Gordon said. More than 30 students from the Advanced Math and Science Academy learned about the importance of Veterans Day this past week.
As a child it may be difficult to grasp the gravity of holidays such as the one we've just had, but a teacher at the Advanced Math and Science Academy hopes to impart some of that importance to his students. "After a classroom discussion about Veterans Day, many students at AMSA expressed an interest in getting actively involved and show their appreciation to local veterans in Marlborough," said AMSA teacher Mark Vital. "I encouraged them to remember the true meaning of the holiday and to set time aside for this special day." As part of the curriculum, students learned how to format a personal letter and wrote a sincere thank you note to veterans they personally knew. This release was provided by the staff of the Advanced Math and Science Academy. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation last month announced the field of semifinalists for its 2012 scholarship program and seven students from the Advanced Math and Science Academy were among those honored. These seniors include: Jerry Hsu, Samuel Kaplan, Bill Warner, Vishant Prabhakaran, Jennifer Hu, and Christina Teodorescu. Micaela Garrison-Desany, meanwhile, is a National Achievement Scholarship semifinalist. “We at AMSA are incredibly proud of these students,” Principal Joseph Sweeney said. “They truly exemplify what our school is about—realizing academic excellence and reaching full potential.” According to the NMSC, about 90 percent of …
