Local Churches Presenting a Living Nativity

St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Westborough, and the Church of the Nativity in Northborough, will offer the program Saturday night.

Two churches each will present a Living Nativity on Saturday night.

At 6 p.m., St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, at 3 John St., Westborough, will offer a performance in the back of its parking lot.

At 6:30 p.m., the Church of the Nativity, at 45 Howard St., Northborough, will offer a performance on its front lawn.

Admission is free to both events.

St. Stephen's is presenting the Living Nativity for the second straight year, event Coordinator Yvette Kite said in an e-mail interview.

This year, a parishioner's baby, named Timothy, will play the baby Jesus, Kite said. A doll held that role last year. Timothy's father will play Joseph.

During the show, "costumed parishioners will act out the Christmas story to narration from the King James Bible, accompanied by live animals, music, and carol singing," according to the church's event listing on Westborough Patch.

"We hope that the public will get a short respite from the hustle and bustle of the commercialized Christmas and time to reflect on and appreciate the true meaning of the Christmas message," Kite said.

"This is our gift to the community from the St Stephen's parish family."

The community will share hot cider, cocoa and cookies in the Parish Hall after the program.

At the Church of the Nativity, the performance will include music by the Nativity Youth Singers, and others, according to the church's event listing.

Live animals used in the show will be available to pet before and after.

Guests' donations to the Northborough Food Pantry will be placed in the scene's manger after the show.

Entertainment and refreshments will follow the program in the church hall.
