United Way to Support Marlborough's Holiday Helper Program

Parents must register for gifts by Friday, Nov. 18.

The city of Marlborough and the United Way of Tri-County announced earlier this week that the Holiday Helper program will go on helping Marlborough families this holiday season, despite the city being unable to coordinate the program due to budget concerns.

As such, the program will continue under the auspices of the United Way's Metrowest program Hope for the Holidays.

Both programs focus on supplying gifts, clothing and food for thousands of children and families in the immediate area.

“The City of Marlborough has put so much love and care into the program in years past, but we had to be mindful of the added strain to city resources and staff time," said Mayor Nancy Stevens. "We are so happy that the program will continue in a new way through the United Way.”

In 2010, Hope for the Holidays aided more than 1700 people in the region. The program will sponsor Marlborough children between the ages of 0-18, who have an existing relationship with the social service providers in Marlborough including, SMOC, the (Marlborough clubhouse) and the .

“We will do our best to support those that received gifts from the previous city program," said Paul Mina, President of United Way. "The Marlborough program has been a wonderful resource for families and so many people have pitched in over the years to make sure Marlborough youth have something to open during the holidays.”

Parents must register for gifts before the end of day Friday, Nov. 18.

Those interested in supporting a child this year are asked to call Barbara LaGrenade at 508-370-4873 or email: barbara.lagrenade@uwotc.org.

All donations will be used to help Marlborough children.
