Rep. James McGovern met with a young Marlborough man on Friday and presented him with the honor for his hundreds of hours of service.

(MA - 3rd) met with a 16-year-old Marlborough High School student Friday and presented him with the Congressional Award Silver Medal for more than 400 hours of service related to accomplishments in public service, personal development, physical fitness, and expedition.

Aiden Steadman completed more than 268 hours of voluntary public service through his Boy Scout troop clearing storm drains, working with "Our Father's Table" serving food to the less fortunate, working with City Year, as well as various other conservation projects, according to documents accompanying the award.

“I’m proud of Aidan, and honored to present this award," said McGovern. "He’s accomplished so much at such a young age, and I know he has a bright future ahead of him.”

In the areas of personal development, Steadman worked part-time on an office staff earning real world insight into the workplace. For physical fitness, he focused on increasing his overall body strength, participating in track practices and home workouts, said the documents. And finally, along with his Boy Scout troop, he helped plan and participated in their recent Tri-State bicycle trip, where they began riding bikes in Connecticut and made a 79 mile, three day trek back to Massachusetts.

Steadman was commended for facing and conquering many challenges on that journey including having a broken bicycle for a portion of time.
