Marlborough Nurses Hold Drive for Food Pantry

Food collected will benefit The Marlborough Community Cupboard.

The registered nurses from Marlborough Hospital, who are members of the Massachusetts Nurses Association/National Nurses United (MNA/NNU), will be holding a food drive to support The Marlborough Community Cupboard on Saturday, Aug. 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. outside the Price Chopper Supermarket, located at 240 East Street in Marlborough.

“As nurses we understand the importance of good nutrition for families struggling in these tough economic times, and particularly during the summer months when children aren’t in school and do not have access to school lunches,” said Julie Lyver RN, co-chair of the MNA/Marlborough Hospital nurses’ local bargaining unit. “This makes summer a very busy time for our food pantries and the shelves are often bare. The nurses want to do what they can to support the families in our community.”

Food collected will benefit The Marlborough Community Cupboard. “Certain foods are most in demand this time of year and we hope the good people of our local community will help us stock the food pantry shelves with those items.” said Pamela Fondas, RN and also a bargaining unit co-chair.
