Highland City Striders Update (3/16/14)

Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig Striders!  It’s Irish Christmas!

Folks, it was a banner week for new members!  We are pleased to welcome to Paul & Annette Fillionfrom Marlborough, Sergio Quezada from Marlborough, Kim Davis from Hudson, and Chris Federfrom Westborough as our newest Highland City Striders!  Bienvenida!

Thanks to all who attended our Annual Family meeting this week.  Thanks to Coach Vital and April Ropes for their outstanding presentations.  Attached this week is April’s presentation on yoga routines for runners.  Very informative and we certainly all would like to be a little more flexible!  April will be teaching a yoga class in Westborough starting on April 26th – please see details below.  Coach Vital showed a video of Mo Farah & Galen Rupp on a treadmill, with a focus on their efficient running form.  You can view that video here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MaOQpCZgSME.  When spring rolls around (will that really happen I wonder???), Coach will break out his software tool and help us all analyze our running form.  We’ll send out the annual report next week.

Good luck to those running Ras na hEireann U.S.A. 5Km today. We will meet up at the corner of Chester & Elm at the Dunkin Donuts (where else would we possibly be???) between 10:30 & 10:45 for a team picture.  Race starts at 11.  If this is your first time, go early so you can get a decent parking spot. Maybe see you at the Joshua Tree post race……….plus, we got several folk running half marathons this weekend- Marathon Park Prep and New Bedford!  Go grab the brass ring!

From our inbox this week:

name: Jeff Malachowski, email: Jmalachowski@wickedlocal.com

subject: Boston Marathon

message: Good afternoon Jim,

This is Jeff Malachowski and I am a reporter with the MetroWest Daily News.  As part of our Boston Marathon coverage I am working on a story about injuries and proper training for the Boston Marathon and was just wondering if there are any runners in the club that are participating in this year's Boston Marathon and if they could tell me about their training and how to avoid injuries. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide and have a great day.

Jeff

Thought for the week:

“May you have the hindsight to know where you've been, the foresight to know where you are going, and the insight to know when you have gone too far.” ~Irish Proverb

Have a great week of running

 Regards,

 Jim
