Highland City Strider Update (2/24/14)

Good Evening Striders,

This week, we are pleased to welcome Bernadette Golas of Boylston as our newest Highland City Strider.

Hyannis.    Congratulations to all of our Hyannis runnahs.  It was a great day to be a Strider.  30 folk made their way to the Cape and four of our six relay teams came home with clamshells.  In addition, Larry Kaplan set a new HCS record in the ½ marathon.   All in all it was a great day and here are the results:

 HIGHLAND CITY STRIDERS;COLONIAL RR  Big Dave Kittredge took home the top honors in the ½ marathon for the guys and Maria Benway took the top spot for the women.  Larry Kaplan set a new HCS record.  Outstanding!!

Mens’ Master Relay Team - Hebert, Milton, Kreiche, & Cattarin – 2:57:08 & a clamshell

Men’s Clydedales – Hoffman, Kitterman, Sambuchi, Zickus – 3:20:42 & a clamshell

Mixed Open – Mahoney, Cormier, Jake, & Volk – 3:22:00 – 8th place against some very stiff competition!

Mixed Master Relay – Lambert, Patalano, Johnson, Krom – 3:38:00 & a clamshell

Women’s Open – Masterjohn, Hebert, Foster, Burnett – 3:32:03 – 5th place finish – again some tough competition

Senior mixed master– McCombs, Rae, Taylor, Tanaka – 4:00:16 & a clamshell

 Wonderful day with some wonderful folk!  Be on the lookout for our next HCS camaraderie event on Monday, March 17th – our annual 3.17 mile fun run. Faith and begorra, there are only 22 more shopping days until St Patrick’s Day. Let the countdown begin!!  Details forthcoming.

Charity Opportunity.  Many of you know Sharon Foster, who leads our Wednesday night speed work sessions at Hudson High.  Sharon is running the Boston Marathon this year with Team in Training to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS).   As a 10+ year leukemia survivor, Sharon is running to raise critical funds for research and treatment to help other have the same great outcome she has.  If you are interested in contributing you can donation online at http://pages.teamintraining.org/ma/boston14/sgf726; if you would prefer to contribute via check; checks can be made payable to LLS and mailed to her at 15 Falls Brook Road, Hudson, MA 01749.  Thank you in advance for your kind generosity.

SAVE THE DATE.  The HCS Annual Meeting will be on Wednesday, March 12th in the evening,7PM at the Hudson Elks Lodge – details to follow, but the evening will feature a couple of presentations – one on nutrition and then a demonstration of yoga moves & techniques beneficial to runners.
