Kids Learn to Be Leaders at Sheriff's Camp

Friday, 41 kids including the daughter of Marlborough Police Chief Mark Leonard, graduated from the Middlesex County Sheriff's Youth Public Safety Camp.

Friday, 41 Marlborough kids graduated from the Middlesex County Sheriff's Youth Public Safety Camp at a ceremony in Billerica.

Among the graduates was Mark Leonard's daughter Christina.

Leonard was one of the speakers at the graduation ceremony.

This is the 13th year of the Middlesex Couty Sheriff's Youth Public Safety Camp and the second year under Sheriff Peter Koutoujian, whose own son has attended the camp too.

"My kids have been through this camp. I get to see it through the children's eyes. I love this camp what it does for my children, and what it does for all of your children," said Koutoujian during the ceremony.

This summer almost 1,700 children will attend the camp. One week is designated each summer for Marlborough kids. They attended this year with kids from Framingham, Natick and Ashland.

Marlborough Cadets who graduated included:

Marlborough S.O.S.: Jack Badavas, Arden Dailida, Jillian Dion, Andrew Duross, Jacob Fichtner, Erin Gowaski, Reese Grinnell, Jordan Harding, Garrett Hayes, Christina Leonard, Jacqueline McKinnon, Andre Moura, Rachel Raymond, Zach Resendes, Anna Thomas Cruz, Andres Thomas Cruz, Jayden Vanbuskirk and Tyler Whitmore.

Marlborough S.W.A.T. House: Lily Brady, Angel Chaulk, Lauren Duross, Nick Hudson, Kyle Keane, Andrew Landry, Elizabeth MacFarland, Patrick McMahon, Chanson Nesbitt, Jack Shaughnessy, Olivia Trudeau, Hillary Turay, Bianca Varela, Erin Zagzoug.

During the free week-long camp, the cadets learned about Internet safety, toured the Marlborough Police Station, visited a Marlborough Fire station, witness a demonstration from a K-9 unit and got some tips on nutrition.
