Teachers Recognized for Excellence by Marlborough Masons

The Marlborough Freemasons of United Brethren Lodge on May 15, recognized three outstanding Marlborough teachers at their annual Teacher of the Year reception, dinner and awards ceremony.

A packed house of coworkers, friends and families honored Kane kindergarten teacher Tania Benedetto, who was named 2014 Teacher of the Year, and Marlborough High School guidance counselor Steven Bishop and Whitcomb Middle School math teacher Karen Suvalskas, who were finalists this year.

Candidates for teacher of the year are nominated by their peers, then screened by the district’s administrative team. Recommendations are forwarded to the Masons, who determine the winners. Each is presented with an award and a stipend to be used in his/her classroom or department as he/she sees fit – no paperwork or strings attached.
